    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a porous polymeric body which shows excellent touch, flexibility and elasticity in a wet state and can be quickly moistened and softened even if dried by adding an aldehyde and an acid to an aqueous solution containing a vinyl polymer having a styrenesulfonic acid (salt) and a polyvinyl alcohol and subjecting the mixture to gelatin. SOLUTION: To an aqueous solution containing 10-55 wt.%, desirably, 20-45 wt.% vinyl polymer having a styrene sulfonic acid (salt) and having a weight- average molecular weight of 100,000 or above, desirably, 300,000-5,000,000 and a polyvinyl alcohol having an average degree of polymerization of 1,000-2,400 and a degree of saponification of 98 mol.% or above, 100-500 mol.%, base on the polyvinyl alcohol, aldehyde and 50-25 mol.%, based on the aldehyde, acid are added, the resulting mixture is subjected to a gelation reaction at 30-90 deg.C, desirably, 40-80 deg.C for 5-48 hr, desirably, 15-24 hr, and the reaction mixture is washed with water or hot water to remove unreacted aldehyde and unreacted acid therefrom to obtain a porous polymeric body.
