    • A locking mechanism is described herein that is attachable to tubing or casing tongs to maintain the engagement of a clamping apparatus of the tubing or casing tongs with a tubular member using only the locking mechanism and the tubing or casing tongs. The locking mechanism can include a pitman arm rotatably supported by the handle of the tubing or casing tongs.
