摘要： A Video Server (100) encodes a video stream according to the values of parameters and transmits the video stream over a Network (200) to a Video Client (300) that decodes the received video stream for presentation to a user. As the video stream is being received, the Video Client (300) continually gathers data regarding at least the condition of Network (200) sends this data to Video Server (100). The Video Server (100) modifies the values of the parameters based on the data received from Video Client (300), which in turn modifies the encoding of the video stream.

An analog service system (POTS), which provides analog service with a battery back-up (101) capable of delivering power during a power outage and a digital service unit (2) coupled to the analog service system are included. The digital service system provides digital service to a user. An input is received that selects the multiple recipients from a stored list of users (310). Phone numbers of the multiple recipients are sent to a temporary voicemail server, in response to the receiving step (315). A voicemail message is received (320, 325). Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of the multiple recipients are determined from the phone numbers, by the temporary voicemail server (335). IP packets that include the voicemail message are sent to any of the multiple recipients that have an active mobile terminal (345). The input and the voicemail message received at the receiving steps are provided by an originating sender of the voicemail message.

The ATM/DSL head-end system includes a network control system (NCS). The CPE includes at least one computer (7). The method includes the step of sending (450) an Internet Protocol (IP) encapsulated signal from the at least one computer (7), in response to an execution of a user command for the remote services control on the at least one computer. The IP encapsulated signal includes an IP address of a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) web server (260) that is coupled to the NCS. The IP encapsulated signal is received for processing by the HTTP server (260). The user command is communicated to the NCS, by the HTTP web server.
