    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the hydrocarbon decomposition rate of autochthonous microorganisms (petroleum decomposition bacteria) and to restore soil polluted with petroleum in an early period by mixing the soil polluted with the petroleum and nitrogen sources and phosphorus sources, then adjusting the air supply rate into the soil mixture and controlling the temp. in the soil mixture. SOLUTION: At the time of the restoration treatment of the soil polluted with the petroleum, the soil 3 polluted with the petroleum is first charged into a hopper 1 and is sent to a mixer 2 by a belt conveyor 4. An aq. soln. 5 contg., for example the nitrogen sources and phosphorus sources is supplied to this mixer 2 and is homogeneously and continuously mixed with the soil 3 polluted with the petroleum. After the completion of mixing, the restored soil 6 discharged from the mixer 2 is carried out by the belt conveyor 4. At the time of such treatment, the fresh air is supplied to the soil mixed with inorg. nutrients to decompose and remove the petroleums in the soil by the effect of the autochthonous microorganisms (petroleum decomposition bacteria). The decomposition rate of the petroleums is so controlled as to attain the range where the rate is highest by utilizing the decomposition reaction heat of the petroleum generated at this time.
