摘要： Provided is a liquid crystal display in which occurrence of iridescent unevenness is suppressed, even when a film with high level of mechanical properties, chemical resistance and water-barrier properties is used as a polarizer-protective-film. Also, disclosed is a polarizing plate to be used in the liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal cell, a light source, a first polarizing plate placed between the liquid crystal cell and the light source, and a second polarizing plate placed on a viewer side of the liquid crystal cell. The first polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a first protective film placed on a light source side principal surface of the first protective film, and the first protective film satisfies following relations: (i) 0 nm≦Re1≦3000 nm; (ii) Nz1≧5; and (iii) Rth1>2500 nm.

摘要： Provided is an image display device including an image display cell and a polarizing plate placed on a viewer side of the image display cell. The first polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a first protective film. The first protective film is placed on a viewer-side principal surface of the polarizer and satisfies following relations: (i) 0 nm≦Re1≦3000 nm; (ii) Nz1≧7; and (iii) Rth1>2500 nm. Re1, Rth1 and Nz1 are defined by following equations: Re1=(nx1−ny1)d1; Rth1=(nx1−nz1)d1; and Nz1=Rth1/Re1, wherein d1 represents a thickness of the first protective film, nx1 represents a refractive index in a direction of an in-plane slow axis of the protective film, ny1 represents a refractive index in a direction of an in-plane fast axis of the protective film, and nz1 represents a refractive index in a direction of the thickness of the protective film.

摘要： Provided is a pressure-sensitive adhesive polarizing plate, including: a polarizer (P); a transparent protective film (E) provided on only one side of the polarizer (P) with an adhesive layer (G) interposed therebetween; a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer (B) provided on another side of the polarizer (P) with a protective layer (H) having a tensile modulus of 100 MPa or more interposed therebetween. The pressure-sensitive adhesive polarizing plate satisfies durability even under harsh environments at a low temperature and a high temperature.

摘要： An optical display unit manufacturing method includes subjecting a sheet material having curling properties to half cutting and bonding the cut piece of the sheet material to a substrate with an adhesive interposed therebetween, while peeling off the member left uncut and can solve the problem of peeling of the cut piece of the sheet material during feeding after the half cutting in such a process, so that the cut piece of the sheet material can be bonded to the substrate in a satisfactory manner. A method for manufacturing an optical display unit comprising a step for feeding a continuous sheet material from a roll of the continuous sheet material, wherein the continuous sheet material comprises the optical member and a release film provided on one side of the optical member with the adhesive interposed therebetween, and cutting the sheet material by cutting means, while leaving the release film uncut and bonding the sheet material to the substrate with the adhesive interposed therebetween, while removing the release film. When no external force is applied, the sheet material curls in the longitudinal direction in such a way that the release film is facing inward.
