    • An apparatus has an image content word holding unit for storing multimedia information, and content words each of which verbalizes a concept expressed in the multimedia information, and an associative word dictionary for storing content words, associative words associated with the content words, and non-associative words which one does not bilaterally associate with the content words in correspondence with each other. The apparatus acquires associative words corresponding to an input query word from the associative word dictionary, and searches multimedia information on the basis of the acquired associative words using a search processing unit. Also, the apparatus acquires non-associative words corresponding to the input query word from the associative word dictionary, and searches multimedia information on the basis of feature amounts corresponding to the acquired non-associative words using the search processing unit. A search result integration processing unit integrates first and second search results obtained by the search processing unit on the basis of the second search results.

    • The present invention provides an integrally formed ramp that is used for evacuating the suspension arm of a data storage device. The ramp has sliding portions, each having guiding zones and a landing zone. The boundary between the guiding zones and the landing zone is formed parallel to a reference line, so even if the landing portion had a recessed shape, the sliding portion could be molded with a casting mold by pulling out the casting mold in the direction of the reference line. The necessary portion of a support portion which is formed with the same casting mold as the sliding portions is formed so as not to disturb the pulling-out of the casting mold in the direction of the reference line. The integrally molded ramp is high in fabrication accuracy and excellent in defining an accurate loading/unloading position of the suspension arm.

    • In an individual identification apparatus, a hologram 11 recorded on a card is irradiated with laser light to read out a fingerprint image of a specific person. A finger of an arbitrary person to be identified with the specific person is irradiated with laser light to obtain a fingerprint image. Thus obtained fingerprint images are jointly written in a first SLM. Then, the joint image is read out and Fourier transformed to obtain a Joint Fourier Transform image, which is then written in a second SLM. The Joint Fourier Transform image is then read out and Fourier transformed to obtain a pair of output correlation peaks. A photodetector detects the intensity of the output correlation peaks and outputs a signal indicative of the intensity. A threshold processor compares the value of the signal with a predetermined threshold value to positively or negatively identify the arbitrary person with the specific person.
