    • The present invention provides a surface acoustic wave device that allows a plurality of surface acoustic wave filters to be formed on a single chip and permits greater miniaturization. The surface acoustic wave device comprises a piezoelectric substrate, a first surface acoustic wave resonator formed on the piezoelectric substrate, and a second surface acoustic wave resonator formed on the piezoelectric substrate in the surface acoustic wave propagation direction of the first surface acoustic wave resonator. The positions in which the first and second surface acoustic wave resonators are formed on the piezoelectric substrate are in an at least partially overlapping relationship in a surface acoustic wave propagation region that is defined by virtually extending the respective openings of the first and second surface acoustic wave resonators. The surface acoustic wave device further comprises a part for dividing the overlap surface acoustic wave propagation region into an upper half and a lower half and for affording the phases of surface acoustic waves that are propagated by the first surface acoustic wave resonator a mutually antiphase relationship in the upper-half region and lower-half region thus divided.

    • A liquid crystal display (LCD) of the present invention includes a display device sustained by relatively soft elastic members at its four corners and by rigid members at the intermediate portions of its four sides. Therefore, the positional accuracy of the display device in the thicknesswise direction of its substrate and stable support are insured. Even when the LCD deforms due to an impact, the display device undergoes a minimum of deformation and is free from breakage. Further, the characteristic frequency of the display device is increased. This, coupled with the fact that the elastic portions absorb oscillation, protects the display device from secondary breakage.

    • An elastic boundary wave device of the present invention includes a plurality of elastic boundary wave elements. The elastic boundary wave elements each include a piezoelectric material layer, an electrode disposed over the piezoelectric material layer, a first dielectric layer formed over the piezoelectric material layer so as to cover the electrode, and a second dielectric layer formed over the first dielectric layer. An acoustic velocity of the second dielectric layers is faster than an acoustic velocity of the first dielectric layers, and the acoustic velocity of the second dielectric layer of at least one elastic boundary wave element from among the plurality of elastic boundary wave elements is different from the acoustic velocity of the second dielectric layer of another of the elastic boundary wave elements. This enables improving the degree of suppression in use as a filter in the elastic boundary wave device.
