摘要： PURPOSE:To minimize the influence of each base material cooler on a matrix surface by enclosing the cooler having a section for feeding a gas to a jacket section with a heat insulator and placing the cooler in a base material feed section. CONSTITUTION:Coolers 13, 14 for cooling base material rods 11, 12 to be fed to melt reservoirs 9, 10 communicating with inner crucible 2 and outer crucible 3, respectively are buried in heat insulating layer 15 on partition wall 6 of base material feed holder 7. Coolers 13, 14 have the same structure, and cooler 13 is composed of cylindrical casing 16 having jacket 16a for circulating a coolant, quartz tube 18 put in casing 16 concentrically and having porous middle ring 17, and inlet 19 for feeding a gas into casing 16. Since coolers 13, 14 have been buried in heat insulating layer 15, a matrix surface is prevented from being cooled by the coolers, resulting in no thermal efficiency lowering.

摘要： PURPOSE:To lessen the transmission loss of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The formation of the coated multiple optical fiber 10 is executed by paralleling plural pieces of optical fibers 1 and integrating these fibers by coating with A UV curing resin to a ribbon form, then applying a silicone oil dissolved in a volatile solvent thereon by an applying device 7 and taking up the fiber ribbon with a bobbin 6. The volatile oil is adequately alcohol and the silicone oil is adequately methyl phenyl silicone oil. The slip of the coating is food and the collapse of taking up form does not arise at the time of taking up the fiber ribbon to the bobbin. Nonuniform load is, therefore, not applied on the optical fibers and the generation of microbends is suppressed, by which the transmission loss is decreased. Since the volatile solvent does not remain on the surface of the coated fibers 10 after taking up, the coating does not swell and the degradation in transmission characteristics does not arise.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the coating of optical fiber with high grade. CONSTITUTION:An uncured resin applied to the outer periphery of optical fiber 6 introduced into a quartz tube 12 is irradiated and cured with ultraviolet rays from an ultraviolet lamp 16. A box unit 19 surrounding the quartz tube 12 and the ultraviolet lamp 16 is connected to a suction device 21 with a vent pipe 20 and the vent temperature is sensed with a temperature sensor 23 installed in the vent pipe 20. A rotation angle of a control valve 24 provided in the interior of the vent pipe 20 is regulated according to the sensed temperature and the suction rate of the suction device 21 is controlled. Thereby, the interior of the box unit 19 can always be maintained at a constant temperature without overheating the quartz tube 12 by generated heat from the ultraviolet lamp 16. As a result, the irradiation of the ultraviolet rays is carried out at a constant temperature and the optical fiber coating is produced at a constant cross-linking degree. Furthermore, the life of the ultraviolet lamp 16 can be prolonged without heating the lamp at a high temperature.

摘要： PURPOSE:To increase the spinning speed and the productivity of optical fiber, by water-cooling the vicinity of the nozzle die for the spinning of the optical fiber, thereby applying a proper temperature gradient to the molten glass extruded from the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:The molten glass G1 for the optical fiber core and contained in the inner crucible 2 and the molten glass G2 for the optical fiber clad and contained in the outer crucible 3 are extruded through the nozzle die at the lower end of the respective crucible, and spun to obtain the optical fiber 14. In the above process, the spun optical fiber 14 is cooled with the water-cooled jackets 12 and 27 placed below the nozzle, and passed through the coating die 31 to coat the outer surface of the optical fiber 14 with a resin. Since the molten glasses G1 and G2 are cooled with the water-cooling jackets just after being extruded through the nozzles, and a proper temperature gradient is applied to the extruded glass, the form of the orifice at the outlet part of the nozzle is stabilized and the spinning speed can be increased.

Measured values thereof are then applied to data indicated in a predetermined relationship between the curing degree of the ultraviolet-curing type resin and the amounts of the components to determine the curing degree of each layer.

摘要： PURPOSE:To stably carry out the coating of uniform thickness of an ultraviolet ray curing resin coating on optical fiber at a high curing rate for a long period. CONSTITUTION:At least one inert gas introduction part 20 is installed near an optical fiber introduction port 16 or an optical fiber delivery port 17 of a quartz tube 15 equipped with a device for irradiating optical fiber 2 coated with an uncured ultraviolet ray curing resin. A vent part 25 is provided adjacently to the inert gas introduction part 20. Thereby, the feed rate of the inert gas into the quartz tube can simply be regulated to remarkably improve the production rate without mixing oxygen therein. Since the inert gas dose not stay in the quartz tube, volatile components do not stick to the inner wall of the quartz tube and the optical fiber in a continuous length can be produced without causing the vibration due to the excess inert gas stream and the coating thickness can be uniformized.
