    • The hearing system comprises at least one hearing device; at least one input unit adapted to receiving incoming signals and obtaining input audio signals from said incoming signals; at least one output transducer adapted to converting audio signals into output signals to be perceived by a user of the hearing system; at least one sound generator adapted to generating system-generated audio signals; an audio analysis unit adapted to obtaining localization information from said input audio signals; and a virtual localization processor adapted to providing said system-generated audio signals with spatial information, thus creating spatialized system-generated audio signals, wherein said spatial information is chosen in dependence of said localization information. Said virtual location may be varied while said spatialized system-generated audio signals are perceived by the user as output signals, and this variation of said virtual location may be indicative of an operational condition of the hearing system. The hearing system may comprise exactly one hearing device or a number of hearing devices, which are not linked amongst each other.

    • The binaural hearing system comprises a first hearing device and a second hearing device, each comprising an output transducer for converting audio signals into signals to be perceived by a user of the hearing system. A communication link interconnects the first and second hearing devices. A sound generator comprised in the first hearing device generates first audio signals. The first hearing device is adapted to transmit the first audio signals to the second hearing device via the communication link. Through the transmission of the generated first audio signals, it is possible to achieve a predictable latency for the perception of the first audio signals by the user's two ears.

    • The method of operating a hearing system comprising at least two devices comprises the step of establishing a common network time among said at least two devices. Said at least two devices can be provided with information on the number of network time units that passed since a time zero point of said common network time. Information on the common network time can be communicated from one device to another device. A wireless link can be used for establishing said common network time. The common network time not only allows for a precise synchronization of events within the hearing system, but also for ordering and sequencing events. A priorization of events, like tasks and actions, is enabled, based on the common network time. Doubly-received or obsolete commands can be recognized and deleted, and tasks can be scheduled.

    • The hearing system (1) comprises a first processing unit (2A); a second processing unit (2B); and a scheduling unit (3) for jointly scheduling tasks to be executed in said first processing unit (2A) and tasks to be executed in said second processing unit (2B). Preferably, the hearing system (1) comprises a first device (1A) comprising said first processing unit (2A); and a second device (1B) comprising said second processing unit (2B).The method for operating a hearing system (1) comprising a first (2A) and a second (2B) processing unit, comprises the step of jointly scheduling at least one task to be executed in said first processing unit (2A) and at least one task to be executed in said second processing unit (2B). If, during scheduling of a task to be executed in said first processing unit, tasks to be executed in said second processing unit can be considered, an improved performance of the hearing system (1) can be achieved, e.g, an improved time synchronization or an improved handling of obsolete tasks.
