    • A method and apparatus for processing acoustic and/or gesture input commands by an entertainment device begins by detecting an acoustic initiation command and/or a gesture initiation command. The initiation command may be directed to a particular entertainment device, which may be a part of an entertainment center, or to the entire entertainment center. In addition, the initiation command corresponds to a particular operation of the entertainment device. Having detected the initiation command, the process proceeds by detecting an acoustic function command and/or a gesture function command, which is associated with the detected initiation command. The flnction command indicates the particular change desired for a corresponding parameter. Having detected the function command, it is interpreted to produce a signal for adjusting the parameter of the entertainment device.

    • A method and apparatus for storing and displaying video image data in a video graphics system is accomplished by receiving a video data stream, where the video data stream includes compressed video image data. The video image stream is parsed to separate the compressed video image data from other data within the data stream. The compressed video image data is decompressed to produce video image data that includes a luminosity plane, a first color plane, and a second color plane. Members of the first and second color planes are compacted together to form color pairs where a plurality of the color pairs form a color line. Each of the color lines is interleaved with at least one luminosity line to produce an interleaved plane. The interleaved plane is stored in memory. Portions of the interleaved video image data are retrieved from the interleaved plane. The portions are structured such that video image data that are located near each other within the memory are fetched together. A video output is generated based on the retrieved groups of image data where the luminosity and color values within each of the fetched groups of image data are utilized together to produce the video output.

    • An image reconstruction system adaptively de-interlaces video stream content using image data comparison techniques when the interlaced input video stream does not contain pre-coded non-interlaced to interlaced conversion status data. In one embodiment, the system uses a signature generator which generates a plurality of field signature values on a per field basis by determining region values based on fluctuations in pixel data, such as luminance data within a horizontal scan line to detect changes in motion. The field signature values are then analyzed to determine a probability that the content is one of several types such as content that has undergone non-interlaced to interlaced conversion, such as pull down conversion for film captured content. Also, independent of whether conversion has occurred, the system analyzes the video streams to determine whether the video stream contains a paused image or slow motion playback of images and de-interlaces accordingly.

    • A method and apparatus is disclosed for using multiple scalers to scale video and graphics data. A video data is capable of accessing data formats not accessible by a graphics engine, pipeline, or scaler. The video data can be accessed by the video scaler and subsequently converted to a data format accessible by the graphics engine, pipeline or scaler. The converted video data can be routed to memory. Once stored in memory, the data can be accessed for further processing, such as additional scaling or graphics processing. In addition, the converted video data can be output directly to a processor, such as a graphics processor for additional processing.

    • A method and apparatus is presented for combining multiple data elements to produce resultant data elements, where the data elements used for combination are reused after being loaded into memory on an integrated circuit. The apparatus includes a memory, where the memory stores a plurality of lines of data. The apparatus further includes a circular line buffer operably coupled to the memory, where the circular line buffer stores a plurality of line elements from a portion of the plurality of lines of data. A read addressing block operably coupled to the circular line buffer generates a number of read pointers corresponding to the circular line buffer. Each of the read pointers is used to address the circular line buffer to retrieve one of the data elements from a different line stored in the circular line buffer. A combination block combines the line elements selected by the read pointers to produce a result element. A write pointer coupled to the circular line buffer is utilized to store data from the memory to the circular line buffer, where data stored in the circular line buffer replaces data which has already been read and used by the combination block. A controller operably coupled to the memory, the combination block, the circular line buffer, the read dressing block, and the write pointer provides control information such that the line element data in the circular buffer is read and replaced in an optimized manner that reduces the amount of memory required to store the line data elements for processing.

    • A method and apparatus adaptively creates a dropped frame rate converted frame from a plurality of source frames using at least one alternate support frame in lieu of neighboring source frame, in response to corrupted picture identification information. Stated another way, a frame rate converter, in response to corrupted picture indication information, replaces at least one corrupted source frame with a temporally modified frame created from at least one alternate source frame. The corrupted picture identification information indicates that a source frame, or segment thereof, includes at least one corrupted or dropped source frame (or segment thereof). Accordingly, although a source frame has been dropped or is corrupted, the frame rate converter does not base its output on a repeated frame or a corrupted frame output by a decoder and instead utilizes other non-neighboring source images as though they were neighboring frames, instead of using a repeated frame or corrupted frame.
