摘要： A test pattern printed by printheads in an inkjet printer enables image analysis of the test pattern that identifies positions of the printheads and the inkjets operating in the printheads. The test pattern includes a plurality of arrangements of dashes, each arrangement of dashes having a predetermined number of rows and a predetermined number of columns, each dash in a row of dashes in the arrangement of dashes being separated by a first predetermined distance and each dash in a column of dashes in the arrangement of dashes being separated by a second predetermined distance, each dash in a column of an arrangement of dashes being ejected by a single inkjet ejector in a printhead of the inkjet printer, and a plurality of unprinted areas interspersed between the plurality of arrangements of dashes.

This printed document is examined in a first direction to determine a first skew of the printing device. The first skew comprises a combination of raster output scanner skew and media path skew. The printed document is also examined in a second direction to determine a second skew. However, this second skew only includes the media path skew of the printing device. Once these two skews are acquired, the method can subtract the media path skew from the first skew to calculate the raster output scanner skew of the printing device.

For example, image lightness (L*) is controlled by periodically printing mid-tone test patches, scanning the printed test patches with a main job document scanner and analyzing the scanned image to determine updated marking engine actuator set points. For instance, ROS exposure and/or scorotron grid voltages are adjusted to maintain image lightness consistency between marking engines.

摘要： A method for monitoring filming levels on a photoreceptor surface of a printing machine includes the use of an enhanced toner area coverage sensor to measure level of filming of substantially the entire photoreceptor surface, the sensor being located at a point downstream from a cleaning station of the printing machine. When the measurement indicates that the filming is unacceptably high on a portion of the photoreceptor surface, corrective action is implemented, for example filming removal. The sensor is preferably mounted in a manner such that it may be moved over substantially the entire surface of the photoreceptor. Also, an electrostatic voltmeter is preferably mounted along with the sensor in order to monitor the charging of the photoreceptor surface.
