    • A heat maintaining food container includes a container for depositing a food product therein and a ferrous material heated element, which has been heated to a selected temperature by electromagnetic induction heating, positioned in close proximity to the food product. The heated element comprises one or more substantially planar carbon steel sheets having a thickness of about 0.005″ to 0.030″ and having an insulative layer fixed to one side of the sheet. The sheet is preferably foldable to take the form of a U-shape or an O-shape for substantially surrounding the food product when placed in the container. Alternatively, the material of the food container may contain a ferrous material wherein the container itself is preheated to a selected temperature by electromagnetic induction heating. In a method for maintaining a food product deposited in a container, a substantially planar steel sheet element is heated by electromagnetic induction heating and placed within the container in close proximity to the food product.

    • A device for monitoring the dispensing of a soft serve product from a soft serve product dispensing machine has a housing with an open pocket formed in its side wall so that the monitoring device may be mounted on a handle of the product dispensing machine. The device includes electronic circuitry, including an accelerometer, that senses the position of the handle of the product dispensing machine. When the handle is sensed to be in a product dispense position, a timing circuit within the device monitors the time during which a soft serve product is dispensed by the machine. Knowing the flow rate of soft serve product from the dispensing machine, the monitoring device will cause a light emitting diode to illuminate to signal the user of the device to re-position the handle of the product dispensing device in the non-dispensing position.

    • An exercise treadmill having a direct drive AC induction motor controlled by an AC motor driver/controller. The driver/controller is itself controlled through programmable circuitry having a display and keyboard with user input options. The controller receives signals from a speed sensing device attached to the AC induction motor to maintain the rotational speed of the AC motor within preselected limits. The AC induction motor is attached to one or more flywheels and directly engages, through a drive roller, a walking belt. The matched combination of an AC motor driver/controller with appropriately sized flywheels allows utilization of a variable speed AC induction motor for the direct drive of the treadmill belt.

    • A remotely programmable food product holding system includes a hand held computer and a food product holding apparatus. The computer includes a processor, touch screen display, and a first communication interface. Data is entered into the hand held computer and transmitted to the food product holding apparatus. The holding apparatus includes a second communication interface, a timer system, and a temperature control system. The timer and temperature control systems are programmed by data transmitted from the hand held computer. A method of remotely programming a food product holding apparatus includes the steps of coupling a hand held computer to a food product holding apparatus, downloading data from the food product holding apparatus, comparing the downloaded data with a file stored in the computer, displaying differences found in the comparison, updating the downloaded data in accordance with the stored file, and uploading the updated data to the food product holding apparatus.
