    • The invention relates to a process for the preparation of boron-containing phenol/formaldehyde resins be reacting diphenylol alkane novolaks with unsaturated fatty acids or fatty acid esters and boron compounds, characterized in that diphenylol alkane novolaks having a molecular weight of from 400 to 1600 are reacted with from 15 to 35 parts by weight of an unsaturated fatty acid or its esters, accompanied by the azeotropic removal of water, and then with from 20 to 100 parts by weight of a boric acid trialkyl ester containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms per alkyl group or with 14 to 72 parts by weight of a boric acid alkyl ester anhydride of the general formula (RO).sub.2 B--O--B--(OR).sub.2 with 1 to 4 carbon atoms per alkyl group R or with from 10 to 50 parts by weight, preferably from 15 to 20 parts by weight of boron trioxide or with from 18 to 90 parts by weight, preferably from 25 to 36 parts by weight of boric acid in the presence of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alcohol.

    • Thermoplastic polyphosphonatocarbonates prepared by polycondensing at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound with a diaryl carbonate and a phosphonic acid diaryl ester in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of (a) tetra-C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkyl titanates, (b) di-C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-tin oxides, (c) di-C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-di-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-tin compounds, (d) tetra-C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 -alkyl zirconates, (e) tri-C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 -alkyl vanadylates and (f) mixtures of germanium dioxide or titanium dioxide and at least one of (a) to (e) in a weight ratio of 1:3 to 3:1 at a temperature of from 80.degree.-340.degree.     • A process for the preparation of a linear or branched-chain thermoplastic aromatic polyphosphonate having an average molecular weight (number average M.sub.n) in the range of from 11,000 to 200,000, which comprises solvent-free ester interchange of at least one diaryl phosphonate or at least one diaryl phosphonate and at least one triaryl phosphate with at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound or at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound and at least one aromatic tri- or tetra-hydroxy compound or a mixture thereof in an oxygen-free gas atmosphere at atmospheric pressure or reduced pressure, with removal of the volatile constituents by distillation, and in the presence of a catalytic quantity of an ester interchange catalyst which comprises at least one compound taken from the group, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 tetraalkyl titanates, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 dialkyl tin oxides, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -di-alkyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -dialkoxy tin compounds, C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 tetraalkyl zirconates and C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 trialkyl vanadylates, antimony or bismuth salts, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 dialkyl stannic acid esters, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 trialkyl stannic acid esters, or a mixture of at least one compound from the above group and germanium dioxide or titanium dioxide.
