    • An electrophotographic liquid toner composition having lower saturation density and method of reducing the saturation density comprising a toner particle formed from a resin, a solid pigment, and a transparent filler, said pigment and said transparent filler having similar surface energies such that they impart similar triboelectric charging properties to said composition, and said composition is further characterized in that the triboelectric properties of said composition are substantially equivalent to the triboelectric properties of a reference composition in which said filler is not present and in which the combined amount of said pigment is equal to the amount of pigment in said reference composition, and in that said transparent filler lowers the saturation density of said composition so that the saturation density of said composition is lower than the saturation density of said reference composition.

    • Custom color control techniques are extended by using a high and a low pigment loaded toner for each color of the primary colors in the printing system. In one application, a large gamut of colors and fine control of color is accomplished by using a minimum number of colored pigments with each color incorporated into both high and low pigment loaded toners. Another application of the high/low pigment loaded toners is the ability to increase the developed mass per unit area (DMA) for rough papers without increasing pigment mass per unit area (PMA) by either mixing high and low pigment-loaded toners or by mixing a high pigment-loaded toner with an unpigmented toner to obtain the desired custom color. A novel sensor which senses fluorescent molecules in toner particles provides a color independent measure of total toner solids.

    • A method and apparatus for eliminating undesirable development of background charge potentials in a multicolor electrostatographic system is disclosed, wherein the application of a developer bias at a given development station is selectively controlled to be substantially equal to or greater than the background image voltage of the image generated by a preceding imaging station such that the voltage differential between toner particles at the development station and the background areas including the previous image areas is substantially zero and the electrostatic forces acting on the toner particles are insufficient to attract the toner particles to the residual image. A method and apparatus is disclosed for eliminating redevelopment of previous images in a multicolor electrostatographic system, and, more particularly, an image-on-image multicolor system, wherein the imaging and development biases for each color in the printing process is systematically adjusted so as to eliminate charge potential differentials which can operate to attract toner particles to the receiving member in a subsequent image development procedure.
