    • PURPOSE:To measure the concentration of ammonium ions in a test water at real time by a method whereby nitrite of a known amount is added to the test water containing ammonium ions, the added substance is supplied to an ammonia decomposing apparatus filled with a catalyst holding a noble metal while the substance is heated, the absorbance of an ultraviolet part of the obtained effluent is measured and the consuming amount of nitrite is detected. CONSTITUTION:A known amount of nitrite is added to a to-be-tested water containing ammonium ions, which is supplied to an ammonia decomposing apparatus filled with a catalyst holding a noble metal while being heated. The amount of the noble metal is generally 0.1-10wt.% to the carrier. The decomposing condition at the decomposing apparatus is generally 70-300 deg.C of the temperature and 3-60 minutes of the reaction time. 0.5-10hr is set for SV and pH is near to neutral. The ammonia in the to-be-tested water is decomposed according to a formula NH4 +NO2 N2 +2H2O. The absorbance of an ultraviolet part of the effluent from the apparatus is measured thereby to obtain the consuming amount of nitrite. The concentration of ammonium ions is calculated from the consuming amount.

    • PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently performing the reactivation of the catalyst by reactivating it with a specific sulfuric acid solution when the catalyst performance is deteriorated in the treatment comprising adding an oxidizing agent to water contg. ammonia.' nitrogen and metal salts and then allowing the resulting water to contact with a catalyst while heating to remove the ammonia nitrogen and the metal salts. CONSTITUTION:In an equipment for removing ammonia and metal salts in waste water discharged from a semiconductor manufacturing process, the waste water in a storage tank 1 and a pH adjusting agent in another storage tank 2 are introduced into a pH adjusting tank 3 provided with a pH controller 3A and an agitator 3B to adjust the pH of the waste water to >=4. Then, the waste water having an adjusted pH is introduced together with an oxidizing agent in a storage tank 5 into a heater 6 using a heat source such as steam, etc., through a pipeline 13. The heated waste water having an adjusted pH is transferred into a catalyst tower 4 and there, the ammonia nitrogen in the waste water is subjected to catalytic oxidation to remove it from the waste water through decomposing it. When the performance of the catalyst in the catalyst tower 4 is deteriorated, the deteriorated catalyst is reactivated by adjusting the H2SO4 concn. of the waste water in the pH adjusting tank 3 to 0.01 to 1N and passing the resulting H2SO4 solution through the catalyst tower 4.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain treated water low in the total concn. of nitrogen and having stable quality by adding an oxidizing agent used in combination with a nitrite and oxygen or an oxygen source substance to ammonia-containing water before bringing ammonia-containing water into contact with a metal catalyst under heating. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizing agent aq. soln. wherein a nitrite and an oxygen source substance such as hydrogen peroxide are mixed and dissolved pref. in a mol ratio of 4:3 to 6:1 is stored in an oxidizing agent aq. soln. storage tank 2 and added to the water to be treated sent from a water-to-be-treated storage tank 1 by a pump 3a through a pump 3b. The addition amt. thereof is pref. set to about 0.8 to 1.07 times the amt. necessary for decomposing ammonia in water to be treated. The water to be treated to which the oxidizing agent aq. soln. is added is sent to a catalyst tower 6 through a heat exchanger 4 and a heater 5 to decomose ammonia in the water to be treated. The treated water issuing from the catalyst tower 6 passes through the heat exchanger 4 to be discharged out of the system through a pressure control valve 7.
