摘要： There is provided a curable pressure-sensitive-adhesive layer comprising an interpolymerized hard-monomer system including one alkyl methacrylate present in an amount up to about 25% by weight, based on the total weight of the monomers, and a soft-monomer system present in an amount of from about 50% to about 95% by weight, and comprising at least one alkyl monoester or diester of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid containing 4 carbon atoms wherein each alkyl group independently contains from 4 to about 8 carbon atoms, the monoester or diester being present in a total amount of up to about 30% by weight, based on the total weight of the monomers, and at least one alkyl acrylate. Cure occurs by electron-beam radiation or by ultraviolet radiation, the former at a dosage of up to 200 kiloGray, after application to a substrate. A multifunctional monomer may be used to enhance radiant-energy cure.

The other of the panels includes a flexible substrate, for example made of a flexible plastic film. The panel with the flexible substrate may be made by a roll-to-roll process, with various fabrication operations formed while the flexible substrate is still part of a web of material. The panel with the rigid substrate may be separately fabricated, then combined with the other panel on the web through a pick and place operation that accurately locates the front panel relative to the back panel. The display may be any of a variety of displays, such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and electroluminescent displays, such as polymer light emitting devices (PLEDs) and organic light emitting devices (OLEDs).

Single layer constructions, and multilayer constructions comprising more than two adhesive layers, and unique adhesive compositions, are also provided. The constructions can be run in high-speed converting presses and adhere well to a variety of substrates.

In one embodiment, the multilayer constructions have one layer formed of a first adhesive composition having a first glass transition temperature, and also having a tangent delta greater than about 0.5 at 102 radians per second at 20° C., and a storage modulus greater than about 3×108 dynes/cm2 at 104 radians per second at 20° C. At least a second adhesive layer is provided in the construction, the second adhesive layer comprising a second adhesive composition with a second glass transition temperature.
