摘要： Systems and methods are provided for determining position location information in a wireless network. In one embodiment, timing offset information is communicated between multiple transmitters and one or more receivers. Such information enables accurate position or location determinations to be made that account for timing differences throughout the network. In another embodiment, transmitter phase adjustments are made that advance or delay transmissions from the transmitters to account for potential timing differences at receivers. In yet another embodiment, combinations of timing offset communications and/or transmitter phase adjustments can be employed in the wireless network to facilitate position location determinations.

The method includes identifying one or more unmodulated subcarriers in a received waveform, processing the one or more unmodulated subcarriers to produce a demodulated output, and determining a noise variance based on the demodulated output. In another aspect, an apparatus for providing a noise and interference estimation is provided. The apparatus includes selection logic configured to identify one or more unmodulated subcarriers in a received waveform, a processor configured to demodulate the one or more unmodulated subcarriers to produce a demodulated output, and variance determination logic configured to determine a noise variance based on the demodulated output.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for communicating transmitter information in a communication network are disclosed. The methods and apparatus communicate transmitter specific information, in particular, which includes location information about network transmitters for use in location or positioning type services. The disclosed methods and apparatus include inserting such transmitter specific information within either a data flow of at least one transmission frame or a control channel in the at least one transmission frame. In addition, a transmitter identifier is encoded in a positioning pilot channel (PPC) within the at least one transmission frame, and the configured transmission frame transmitted to a user device. The user device may use the transmitter specific information of numerous transmitters along with the transmitter identifiers to measure how far it is from the transmitters, and then triangulate to determine position.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for transmitter identification in a wireless network are disclosed. In an example, a method is provided that encodes pilot information on a first portion of a number of subcarriers in a symbol within a pilot positioning channel for an active transmitter. The method further includes encoding transmitter identification information on a second dedicated portion of the number of subcarriers of the symbol. The method also encompasses including a transmitter allocation field that signals the number of succeeding symbols that will be used by the transmitter for transmitting any other information in an interference free manner. In another example, a method is provided that receives a symbol having a number of subcarriers from a transmitter. A channel estimate and an energy measurement of the symbol using a first portion of the subcarriers. A dedicated second portion of the number of subcarriers in the symbol are then decoded to determine the transmitter identification information.

The method includes decoding at least one TDM pilot symbol located at a transition between wide and local waveforms and processing the TDM pilot symbol to perform time synchronization for a wireless receiver. Methods for channel estimation at a wireless receiver are also provided. This includes decoding at least one TDM pilot symbol and receiving the TDM pilot symbol from an OFDM broadcast to facilitate channel estimation for a wireless receiver.
