    • A fuel injection valve includes: a needle valve including a seat portion on a tip side thereof; a nozzle body including a seat surface on which the seat portion is placed, and a swirl stabilization chamber on a downstream side of the seat surface, the nozzle body having an injection hole formed so as to have an inlet in the swirl stabilization chamber; a swirl flow generating portion having swirl grooves configured to give a swirling component to fuel to be introduced into the swirl stabilization chamber; and a fuel collision portion provided in a tip portion of the needle valve, the fuel collision portion being configured such that, in a state where the needle valve is opened, the fuel collision portion intersects with a virtual surface extended toward the injection hole from the seat surface included in the nozzle body. This allows dead fuel to be retained in the swirl stabilization chamber and to be introduced into the injection hole in a state where a swirling component has been given to the dead fuel from fuel having the swirling component.

    • An electric control device 70 is applied to an internal combustion engine 10 capable of a pre-mixed charge compression ignition combustion in which air-fuel mixture gas including air and fuel injected from an injector 37 is formed in a combustion chamber 25, and the air-fuel mixture gas is self-ignited to be combusted by compressing the air-fuel mixture gas during a compression stroke. The electric control device injects high pressure fluid such as air from the air injection valve 38 into the air-fuel mixture gas at a predetermined acting timing within a compression stroke prior to fuel pyrolysis starting timing to enhance the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas. This enables the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas at the fuel pyrolysis starting timing to become larger than the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas at the fuel pyrolysis starting timing obtained only by simply compressing the air-fuel mixture gas during the compression stroke. As a result, the combustion is moderated and the combustion noise is reduced.

    • A pitch-based carbon fiber sliver providing a high-strength carbon fiber spun yarn is efficiently produced by providing a pitch-based carbon fiber mat comprising a mass of piled-up pitch-based carbon fibers of which fiber extension directions are aligned preferentially in one direction; and directly subjecting the carbon fiber mat to drawing and carding by means of a carding machine while moving the mat in said one preferential alignment direction. The thus-obtained carbon fiber sliver is drawn and twisted to produce a pitch-based carbon fiber spun yarn containing at least 3 wt. % of fibers having a fiber length of at least 150 mm, a number of primary twist of 50-400 turns/m and a tensile strength of at least 0.10 N/tex.
