摘要： A system for horizontal expansion of low resolution display modes onto high resolution displays including flat panels at a variable scaling factor is disclosed. The system may be combined with known methods for vertical expansion to allow low resolution display modes to be expanded onto any high resolution display. Two different methods are provided, one for graphics modes and one for text modes, to attain better screen image quality. In the first method, a first pixel data sequence to be expanded is first oversampled at a multiple of the frequency thereof to produce an intermediate oversampled data sequence. The oversampled data sequence is linearly decimated by a factor of less than unity to produce a replicated second data sequence longer than the first, which is then displayed. In the second method, the intermediate oversampled data sequence is filtered to provide an interpolated oversampled data sequence, which is then decimated instead of the intermediate oversampled data sequence, to further improve the screen image quality. No particular mechanism for the graphics controller or display logic is required, eliminating complicated image processing and enabling the size, complexity and cost of the video subsystem of a computer to be reduced.

摘要： A method that utilizes software means to meet the FCC requirement for an U-NII antenna to be an integral part of the device in which it operates, while providing wireless ready U-NII devices and CRUable U-NII radios. Enhancements are made to the system BIOS, including the inclusion of a table of PCI IDs and secret key pairs. The CRUable radio includes a pair of validation registers (VRs) and an EEPROM storing an PCI ID and secret key of an approved device. During boot up of the device, the PCI ID and secret key from the device's BIOS are compared against the PCI ID and secret key stored in the radio's EEPROM. The first comparison completes a radio-to-device authentication in the device, while the second comparison completes a device-to-radio authentication in the radio. U-NII transmission capability is enabled only when both parameters match, indicating FCC approved device-antenna-radio combination under the “integral” requirement.

摘要： A display mode switching device and method automatically switches a display mode of a television set to an overscan mode or to an underscan mode depending on a content of a screen. In a case of connecting a television set to a computer, a call from an application for an API in an OS is detected by a device driver when a user starts playing a DVD or a game. Accordingly, an output mode for the television set is switched to the overscan mode. In this way, a motion video or a game is displayed on the television set in the overscan mode. Meanwhile, when the user finishes playing the DVD or the game, a call for the API to release resources is detected by the device driver, and the output mode is restored to the underscan mode. In this way, a computer screen is displayed on the television set in the underscan mode.

Enhancements are made to the software BIOS, including the inclusion of a table of approved radio-antenna PCI ID pairs to create an authentication scheme that verifies and authenticates the radio and antenna combination as being an FCC-approved unique coupling during boot-up of the system. The BIOS also comprises an OEM field that stores an encrypted secret key utilized to complete a second check of the radio model placed in the device. During boot up of the device, the PCI ID pairs from the BIOS are compared against the PCI ID of the radio and the secret key is checked against the radio model. Only a system with an approved combination of radio and antenna is allowed to complete the boot process, indicating an FCC approved device-antenna-radio combination under the “integral” requirement.

摘要： Screen interpolation is done without using an expensive line buffer, etc., to enlarge and display an original image without incongruity. Rather than computing an interpolated pixel value as an average of adjacent pixel values and displaying the computed average pixel value in each frame, in accordance with this invention a pixel to be interpolated assumes one of the adjacent pixel values in each frame, but in successive frames assumes different adjacent pixel values in a mix such that the average value of the interpolated pixel over many frames becomes the desired interpolated value. Since successive frames are displayed very rapidly, to the human eye the afterglow (or visual persistence) phenomenon causes the screen to appear as if an enlarged image is being displayed at all times without incongruity (i.e., the varying values of the interpolated pixels are not noticed by the human eye).
