    • Database synchronization processing is completed within a reasonable time, using narrow-band network that connects a primary site to a secondary site, to reduce the running cost of a system. A primary DBMS has a transaction executing unit for reading a primary DB of a primary storage system to update data as requested in an update request, and a write unit for writing the updated data in the primary storage system. The primary storage system includes an unnecessary information removing unit for overwriting an unused area in the written data successively with one of a preset character and a preset value. The primary storage system is connected, via a network, to a second storage system which stores a copy of the primary DB. The primary storage system is connected to the network via a network device which has a data compression unit for compressing a succession of the same value.

    • The data processing system controls, from the database management system on a host computer, the storage device subsystem which stores log data supplied from the database management system; allocates on a disk cache in the storage device subsystem in advance a log-dedicated buffer area of a size equal to that of the log data output between checkpoints; writes log data into the buffer area; and, in the event of a host computer failure, reads out the log data from the disk cache without making access to a disk device. Since the log information required for the recovery of the data processing device is cached on the storage device side, the time it takes to read the necessary log information can be shortened, which in turn reduces the system recovery time.

    • It is an object of the present invention to use the resources of various sites in an effective manner. The first site has a first DB access part in use. The second site has a second DB access part in use in addition to a first DB access part for standby corresponding to the first DB access part in use. The second DB access part in use writes data into a second storage device that is assigned to the second DB access part itself. The inter-site monitoring server monitors the first DB access part in use and the second DB access part, and in cases where it is detected that the first DB access part in use has gone down, the inter-site monitoring server switches the first DB access part for standby to the DB access part in use.
