    • The reproduction of a copy inhibit image and the abuse of data through a network are to be prevented without sacrificing various page editing functions. An image read unit scans an original placed on an original carrying table and thereby generates RGB color image signals of multi-value. An image processing unit performs various image processing and, upon detection of a copy inhibit original, performs image working for preventing faithful reproduction of the copy inhibit original. An image storing unit temporarily stores page by page original images provided from the image processing unit. If a copy inhibit image is contained in the original images, the image working is performed by the image processing unit to prevent faithful reproduction and the images after the image working are stored in the image storing unit. An image output unit performs a printing operation in accordance with image data outputted from the image processing unit.

    • A Mach-Zehnder modulator has a first waveguide path, a second waveguide path and first and second phase modulator sections respectively formed in the first and second waveguide paths. Those two waveguide paths have different equivalent refractive indexes so that with no modulation electric signal applied to the first and second phase modulator sections, lights waveguided through the first and second phase modulator sections have a phase difference of (2N+1).pi. (N: 0 or a positive integer). No voltage or a constant voltage is applied to the second phase modulator section, and a modulation signal is applied to the electrode of the first phase modulator section. When a voltage of 0 is applied to the first phase modulator section, a light OFF state is acquired, and when a voltage of V.pi. is applied to the first phase modulator section, a light ON state is acquired. Therefore, negative chirping is generated at the light ON time and the light OFF time.

    • A receptacle type semiconductor laser module (TOSA) includes a semiconductor laser, a lens, and a fiber stub. The fiber stub has a slantwise cut surface to which a emission light emitted from the semiconductor laser and passing through the lens is incident. The cut surface is arranged in a position deviated from the focus of the lens in the direction of the optical axis of the fiber stub. The semiconductor laser module further includes a fixed optical attenuator arranged on a path of an emission light of the semiconductor laser and having an incident surface being oblique to an optical axis of the semiconductor laser. By such a configuration, a coupling fluctuation caused by an eccentricity of the optical fiber cord connected to the fiber stub and a near-end reflection can be suppressed.
