    • A method and system for soft handover detection for uplink interference avoidance that includes a network device and mobile device in a communications network. The mobile device uses a downlink carrier. A parameter, such as a signal strength or a signal quality, of the downlink carrier and one of a co-sited downlink carrier or neighboring downlink carrier is measured. A soft handover area is detected by the network device or the mobile device based on comparing the signal strength or the signal quality of the downlink carrier with the signal strength or the signal quality of one of the co-sited downlink carrier or the neighboring downlink carrier. The downlink carrier, the co-sited downlink carrier or the neighboring downlink carrier may be from a core band, (e.g., 2.0 GHz), or extension band, (e.g., 2.5 GHz), of frequencies or combination thereof. The system provides for handovers while uplink carrier interference is avoided.

    • The invention proposes a method for controlling a network comprising at least one cell served by a first type network device, wherein the first type network device is adapted to serve second type network devices, the method comprising the steps of detecting (S1) the downlink load of the cell in a direction from the first type network device to the second type network device, deciding (S2) whether the first type network device serving the cell is suited to serve sufficient service to second type network devices requesting service in the cell with respect to the detected downlink load, generating (S3) information as to the attractiveness of the first type network device based on the result of the deciding step, and providing the information to the second type network devices. The invention proposes also a device for controlling a network. By the method and the device, the load on a network can be more evenly distributed.

    • A method of selecting a cell for handover of a mobile station to another communication system. A command is sent to a mobile station from a first network element. The command includes a request to perform compressed mode measurements at the mobile station of a neighboring cell. The neighboring cell uses a different communication means than the first network element. Compressed mode measurement results are received from the mobile station at the first network element. The received compressed mode measurement results are weighted with indicators of a prioritized neighbor cell list to form a prioritized list. A second command is sent to the mobile station from the first network element. The second command includes a second request to decode identification codes at the mobile station based on the prioritized list. An indicator of a suitable cell from the prioritized list is received from the mobile station at the first network element. An instruction is sent to the mobile station from the first network element after receiving the indicator. The instruction stops decoding identification codes at the mobile station.
