The absorbent article has an overhanging part which overhangs outward in the lateral direction of the article and which can be turned back to a rear surface sheet 2 side on either side of an absorber body. The overhanging part has an indicator part 6 to be discolored in contact with a liquid, disposed between two layers of virtually impermeable sheets. The overhanging part also has a recessed part on a side of the absorbent body where a member constituting the overhanging part is recessed sideways of the absorbent body. The recessed part and the absorbent body are fixed to each other by a joint part, which has a moisture permeable region. The moisture permeable region can guide the liquid to the indicator part.
