    • PURPOSE:To make an odorant sensor to be easily manufactured, to quickly respond, and to be able to use various kinds of lipids and, at the same time, to have chemical and mechanical durability by using a film made of the mixture of a high-molecular compound and lipid for the odorant molecule adsorbing film of the sensor. CONSTITUTION:A crystal resonator 11 is a piezoelectric element composed of, for example, an AT-cut quartz substrate 11a and gold electrodes 11b formed on both side faces of the substrate 11a. A film 12 of the mixture of polyvinyl chloride and dioctyl phosphate (lipid), namely, an odorant molecule adsorbing film 12 having an average film thickness of about 0.2mum is formed on the electrode 11b on one side face of the resonator 11. When the film 12 adsorbs odorant molecules, the resonance frequency of the film 12 is increased by the adsorbed amount of the molecules. As the resonance frequency of the film 12 increases, the resonance frequency of the resonator 11 decreases and, when the resonance frequency of the resonator 11 is measured, the odor can be measured. Since the mixture of the high-molecular compound and lipid is used for the film 12 in such a way, the film 12 can be manufactured by a spin coating method, etc., and even such a lipid that cannot be used for manufacturing an LB or bimolecular film can be used.
