    • Systems and methods for communicating control data for multiple physical data channels by transmitting control information for a first physical data channel on a physical control channel and combining the control information with information for a logical data channel and transmitting the combined information on a single physical data channel. In one embodiment, a method includes encoding and multiplexing data for a first data channel with control information for a second data channel, transmitting the multiplexed data on the first data channel, transmitting second data on the second data channel, and transmitting the control information for the first data channel on a control channel. The multiplexed data is then decoded using the control information from the control channel and demultiplexed. The demultiplexed control information for the second data channel is then used to decode the data on the second data channel.

    • Systems and methods for selecting data rates at which to transmit data over a primary uplink in the presence of one or more secondary uplink channels. One embodiment comprises a method including determining probabilities associated with numbers of attempted transmissions of data, determining the number of times pending data transmissions have been attempted, determining probabilities associated with the data transmissions, and allocating power for transmission of the data in a succeeding frame based upon the associated probabilities. In one embodiment, a highest supportable data rate for a primary uplink is initially selected. Then, power is allocated for a minimum set of channels on the primary uplink. Then, power is allocated for pending data transmissions on the secondary uplink. A maximum power level for the transceiver is then adjusted to account for the allocated power, and the highest supportable data rate for the primary uplink is recomputed.

    • Systems and methods for communicating control data for multiple data channels using a single control channel. In one embodiment, a method is implemented in a WCDMA communications system. This method includes combining data rate information for a first data channel and data rate information for a second data channel in a mobile station, encoding the combined data rate information and transmitting the encoded combined data rate information from the mobile station to a base station via a single control channel. This method further includes receiving the encoded combined data rate information in the base station, decoding the encoded combined data rate information to produce the combined data rate information, and extracting the data rate information for the first and second data channels and decoding the first and second data channels using this information.
