    • An intelligent, interactively maneuverable interface display of current electronic programming guide (EPG) textual information presentable on a user's television screen. The display, which is organized as a context display, includes keyword-sensitized text, and a virtual, user-employable navigation tool, such as a scrollbar tool, which, via a hand-held remote control device, enables a user quickly, intuitively, and with appropriate user-specific focus to locate programming material of special interest. Display information which is thus accessed by user manipulation of this tool is arranged in a sensible hierarchical manner so as to define different levels of focus-resolution which relate to different “positions” of a handle in the scrollbar tool.

    • The present invention provides a device driver and a method for controlling access to data on a computer readable medium. According to the invention, there is provided an interface for access to a device-driver stack for a media drive, a detector for detecting insertion of a computer readable medium in said media drive, and a monitor for monitoring accessing of data on said computer readable medium. A control device establishes a location of at least one demonstration zone on said computer readable medium and determines whether a data region currently being accessed is in said demonstration zone. Said control device modifies playback of data in dependence upon the outcome of said determination.

    • An ancillary data distribution display presents a graphic display in Cartesian coordinates of the video line numbers for a video frame from a serial digital video data stream along one axis and a data count for each line along the other axis for ancillary data extracted from the serial digital video data stream. The data count may represent packets of data, words of data or normalized delta values based upon the average number of data words per line for the video frame. The axis representing the data count is adaptive according to the maximum data count for the data type per video frame displayed. A particular line of the serial digital video data stream may be selected, with the graphical representation being highlighted as a cursor and the selected line number and the corresponding data count being displayed alphanumerically. The video frame may be split to provide two halves of the frame side-by-side on the display.
