    • A method of and apparatus for electrodepositing a metal onto a workpiece wherein an electric potential is applied between an anodic electrode and the cathodic workpiece in the presence of an electrodepositing solution. A narrow thermal light beam is directed onto the workpiece and intercepted by a localized area thereon to activate an interface between the area and the electrodepositing solution. The metal in the solution is thereby electrodeposited selectively on that localized area. The beam and the workpiece are relatively displaced to successively shift the area of interception of the beam until a desired surface region on the workpiece is electrodeposited. Preferably, the thickness of the solution traversed by the beam incident upon the localized area is limited not to exceed a preselected dimension. The apparatus preferably comprises a mirror for reflecting the beam from a source thereof which is fixed in position onto the workpiece and a drive unit for displacing the mirror to achieve the required displacement of the incident beam relative to the workpiece. A lens is disposed in the optical path for the beam and the position thereof is controlled to maintain its focal plane coincident with the beam-intercepting localized area.

    • An improved machining-liquid supply system for traveling-wire electroerosion machining is disclosed which comprises a machining-liquid ejecting nozzle disposed on one side of a workpiece and traversed by the traveling wire electrode for injecting a thin stream of the machining liquid into the cutting zone in the workpiece. A cover member is disposed proximate to and so as to surround, the end of the cutting zone on the other side of the workpiece and is formed with a drain duct communicating with a suction source to forcibly draw the machining liquid injected into the cutting zone by the machining-liquid ejecting nozzle. The system further comprises a coolant-ejecting nozzle disposed so as to coaxially surround the machining-liquid ejecting nozzle for ejecting a stream of coolant and enclosing therewith the stream of the machining liquid being injected into the cutting zone.

    • A method of and an apparatus for electroerosively machining a 3D cavity in a workpiece using a slender tool electrode, e.g. in the form of a wire or thin rod, which is generally independent of desired cavity in shape and axially juxtaposed with the workpiece to define a liquid-flooded machining gap therebetween.     • An improved method of and apparatus for electrically machining a workpiece wherein the machining surface of an electrode is spacedly juxtaposed with the workpiece and supplied with a machining liquid.     • An electroerosive contouring wire-cutting apparatus using a distilled or deionized water machining medium of a specific resistivity controlled to be in a range between 102 and 105 ohm-cm, and having abrasive particles of TiC, TiN, B4C, BN, SiC, Al2O3 and/or SiO2 of for example a particle size in the order of microns for delivery by the medium to the machining gap. A high-frequency vibration of a frequency of 1 kHz to 1 MHz is imparted to the wire electrode traveling through the workpiece in a direction transverse to the wire axis to enhance the combined electroerosive and abrasive actions at the machining gap. The machining medium is delivered by a nozzle, retrieved at a collector, and separated into its liquid and solid components in a separator. After deionizing the liquid and extracting the machining products, the abrasive particles and deionized water are mixed and recirculated through the nozzle.
