    • A computer-implemented method for caching data on virtualization servers may include: 1) providing a virtualization server that executes at least one virtual machine on the virtualization server, 2) intercepting a data operation that includes both basic data and metadata, the data operation being requested by the virtualization server, 3) caching the basic data from the data operation on a solid state drive cache at the virtualization server, and 4) preventing the solid state drive cache from providing metadata from the data operation to the virtualization server.     • A computer-implemented method for facilitating access to shared resources within computer clusters may include (1) identifying a computer cluster, (2) identifying at least one node within the computer cluster that has been selected to execute an application, (3) identifying at least one different node within the computer cluster that has not yet been selected to execute the application, (4) importing a read-write configuration of at least one shared resource to the node, (5) importing a read-only configuration of the shared resource to the different node, (6) determining, after importing the read-only configuration of the shared resource to the different node, that the different node has been selected to execute the application, and then (7) converting, in response to this determination, the different node's read-only configuration of the shared resource to the read-write configuration of the shared resource.     • A computer-implemented method for migrating virtual machines may include: 1) identifying a request to migrate a virtual machine from a primary site to a secondary site, the primary site including a primary storage device used by the virtual machine and configured for asynchronous replication to a secondary storage device at the secondary site, 2) identifying a difference map that reflects differences between data on the primary storage device and the secondary storage device, 3) initiating the virtual machine at the secondary site, 4) intercepting an input/output attempt from the virtual machine at the secondary site to the secondary storage device, 5) determining, based on the difference map, that a region of the input/output attempt has not been synchronized from the primary storage device, and 6) retrieving the region from the primary storage device before allowing the input/output attempt to proceed.     • A mechanism is provided for identifying data that can be removed from a cache memory by determining a memory region of the cache that is less recently accessed than other memory regions in the cache. A tree data structure is used to store a mapping of storage volume data locations to cache data locations. A counter reflecting recency of access to the cache data location is associated with each entry. The counter is incremented, along with counters associated with keys leading to a node including the entry, with each access to the associated cache memory location, while other counters in each affected node are decremented. Advantages of the tree data structure are used to efficiently locate a cache memory location associated with a counter reflecting a less recently accessed state in order to make that cache memory location available for storage of recently accessed data from the storage volume.
