    • A method and a radar sensor for determining an elevation angle error of a multibeam radar sensor are described. In order to detect an elevation angle of the multibeam radar system with respect to a predefined target, a plurality of laterally arranged cutting planes at a predefined distance are formed. The values of the corresponding antenna diagrams in each plane are stored in a suitable form, for example, normalized and in a parametric form taking into account the elevation angle &agr;. In order to reduce the size of the memory, it is sufficient to store one symmetry half for reasons of symmetry if additional information, for example, road clutter values are added, so that the upward or downward direction of the angle can be recognized. By comparing the measured echo values obtained by normalization and application of a quality factor, a corresponding elevation angle &agr; is obtained for each cutting plane. Using an appropriate histogram, an angle for the maladjustment of radar sensor can be determined from the measured values stored over a longer period of time.

    • A light-weight brake shoe for a rotary disc brake having a removable and replaceable friction pad. The brake shoe provides a thin-walled backing plate having a side wall for cooperatively engaging the friction pad. The side wall of the backing plate has a pair of raised lip portions for cooperatively engaging a complementary groove provided in the bottom wall of the friction pad. An irregularly shaped spring cooperatively engages a tapered groove provided in the top wall of the friction pad for biasing the friction pad into cooperative engagement with the side wall of the backing plate. The tapered groove of the friction pad provides a downwardly and inwardly biasing force in order that the friction pad maintains cooperative engagement with the side wall of the backing plate while also ensuring that the friction pad avoids dragging on the brake rotor of the vehicle when the brake is not activated.

    • An improved disc brake rotor is formed with fins extending between the two annular braking members which are elongated tangentially of the rotor axis and disposed in two groups lying at different radial distances from the axis. The tangential orientation of the fins minimizes the amount of material required to form the fins while achieving structural rigidity comparable to other fin arrangements which require substantially more material. The fin arrangements disclosed thus enables a substantial reduction in weight and also achieves efficient cooling air flow patterns for either direction of rotation of the rotor.
