摘要： An apparatus that reduces a volume of a selected site in an interior of the tongue includes a handpiece and an energy delivery device at least partially positioned in the interior of the handpiece. The energy delivery device includes an energy delivery surface and is advanceable from the interior of the handpiece into the interior of the tongue. An energy delivery device advancement member is coupled to the energy delivery device and configured to advance the energy delivery device an advancement distance in the interior of the tongue. The advancement distance is sufficient for the energy delivery surface to deliver energy to the selected tissue site and reduce a volume of the selected site without damaging a main branch of the hypoglossal nerve. A cable is coupled to the energy delivery device.

摘要： A device for introducing a catheter into a vessel through a puncture in a vessel and for sealing the puncture. The device includes an elongated body having a proximal end and a distal end sized to be positioned within a tissue site which includes the puncture. The elongated body includes a utility lumen sized to allow a catheter to be delivered through the utility lumen. The utility lumen is positioned within the elongated body so positioning the elongated body within the tissue site allows a catheter delivered through the utility lumen to enter the vessel. The elongated body also includes a closure lumen having an entrance port. A closure composition can be delivered through the entrance port into the closure lumen. The closure lumen also includes an exit port adjacent the distal end of the elongated body. The closure composition delivered into the closure lumen can be delivered through the exit port to the tissue site adjacent the puncture.

摘要： An apparatus for ablating at least a portion of a uvula includes an electrode means with a proximal end, and an electrode means distal end sharpened sufficiently to pierce an exterior of the uvula without a retainer device supporting the uvula. 摘要： An ablation apparatus is provided which ablates at least a portion of an interior of a body structure while reducing a swelling response in the body structure. The apparatus provides a catheter including a probe tissue interface surface and a port formed in the catheter tissue interface surface. An electrode is at least partially positioned in the interior of the probe and configured to be advanced and retracted in and out of the port. The electrode includes an electrode electromagnetic energy delivery surface. A cooling element includes a cooling medium inlet conduit and a cooling medium exit conduit, both extending through an interior of the probe forming at least a partial cooled catheter tissue interface surface. The electrode electromagnetic energy delivery surface is thermally isolated from the cooling element. An electrode advancement and retraction device is at least partially positioned in the interior of the probe. A cable is coupled to the electrode.

摘要： A method and system for shrinking dilatations of a body, removing excess, we ak or diseased tissues, and strengthening remaining tissues of the lumen walls. A catheter is disposed near the dilatation and fixed in position by inflatable occlusion balloons. Body fluids present in the occluded dilatation are evacuated and treatment fluid is exuded under pressure into the dilatation. Pressure is maintained by the treatment fluid while energy is applied by the catheter to heat the treatment fluid, causing the lumen walls to absorb the treatment fluid. Additional energy is then applied so as to preferentially heat the lumen wall tissues which have absorbed the treatment fluid, while a t the same time treatment fluid is circulated to cool the inner surface of the lumen walls. The dilatation is occluded, a saline solution is introduced and absorbed into the lumen-wall tissue in the occluded region of the dilatation and then heated by application of radio frequency ("RF") or other energy in order to soften only the lumen-wall tissue of the dilatation, the dilatation is shrunk by application of a chilled saline solution and a vacuum, and additional RF or other energy is emitted to ablate, further shrink, and hard en only the lumen-wall tissue of the dilatation, without destroying the inner surface of the lumen or other tissues of the body beyond the lumen walls, thereby promoting the growth of epithelial cells.

摘要： A method for debulking the tongue provides an ablation apparatus including a source of electromagnetic energy and one or more electromagnetic energy delivery electrodes coupled to the electromagnetic energy source. At least one electrode is advanced into an interior of the tongue. Electromagnetic energy is delivered from the electrode to debulk an interior section of the tongue without damaging a hypoglossal nerve. The electrode is then retracted from the interior of the tongue.
