摘要： Embodiments are provided in which a method is described for a processor to perform a task of accessing a PCI-X device via a PCI-X bridge, the PCI-X bridge including a processing circuit. The processor builds M read/write control blocks (RWCBs), M being a positive integer. Then, the processor signals the processing circuit and switches to another task. In response, the processing circuit fetches and processes the M RWCBs, one RWCB at a time, to access the PCI-X device. After processing the M RWCBs, the processing circuit interrupts the processor. In response, the processor obtains the result of the processing of the M RWCBs.

摘要： In various embodiments a traffic class manager is a resource within a virtualized computer systems trusted entity (e.g. a hypervisor, trusted partition, etc.) that maps requirements from a platform management and associated network capabilities onto an adapter (e.g. SR-IOV adapter, etc.) in order to appropriately allocate adapter and network resources to virtualized computer partitions. In various embodiments the traffic class manager defines network traffic classes that meet the objectives of a platform administrator based on the capabilities of the adapter and the network attached to the adapter ports. Once the traffic classes are defined, in various embodiments, the traffic class manager enforces the assignment of a traffic class to a virtual interface queue pair within a partition.

摘要： A firmware update process for a self-virtualizing IO resource such as an SRIOV adapter is incorporated into a platform firmware update process to systematically update the resource firmware in a manner that is for the most part transparent to the logical partitions sharing the adapter. In particular, resource firmware associated with a self-virtualizing IO resource is bundled with firmware for at least one adjunct partition associated with that self-virtualizing IO resource within a common firmware image so that, upon restart of the adjunct partition to use the updated firmware image, the resource firmware is also updated, with a logical partition that uses the self-virtualizing IO resource maintained in an active state during the restart, and without requiring the self-virtualizing IO resource to be deconfigured from the logical partition.

The second portion of the internal resources may be a subset of the first portion of the internal resources. The computer-implemented method may further include configuring a virtual function prior to a runtime to use the assigned second portion of the internal resources.

摘要： At least one input/output (I/O) firmware partition is provided in a partitioned environment to facilitate access to I/O resources owned by the at least one I/O firmware partition. The I/O resources of an I/O firmware partition are shared by one or more other partitions of the environment, referred to as consumer partitions. The consumer partitions use the I/O firmware partition to access the I/O resources. Since the I/O firmware partitions are responsible for providing access to the I/O resources owned by those partitions, the consumer partitions are relieved of this task, reducing complexity and costs in the consumer partitions.
