    • Methods and apparatus for substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file for a device in a printing environment. Features and aspects hereof provide for providing an XML schema (XMLS) file representing the available features of the device and then substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file from the XMLS file. The XMLS file may be substantially automatically generated by appropriate computing tools based on provided JDF job tickets for the device or may be generated by any other means and provided for generation of the device capabilities file. The device capabilities file may be generated by parsing the hierarchical tree structured XMLS file to identify attributes and elements therein. Each attribute is then translated to a corresponding device capabilities entry representing the available features of the device and setting values for each feature to generate the device capabilities file.

    • Search results are ranked by applying sub-relevancies within a search result list. This permits search result lists to be further refined into more manageable relevant groupings from a user's perspective. The sub-relevancies or ‘group-by’ parameters are derived from search result attributes. Attribute values from the attributes are employed in a ranking scheme to group the search results based on attribute value relevancy. The grouped search results can then be displayed to users via a search result page. In one instance users can select which attribute value is used to group the search result list. Ranking processes are based on object ranking algorithms that consider each attribute value as an object type. Some instances provide for search result list group condensing based on relevancy of the attribute values as well. A top-k instance can be employed to limit the search results to control the amount of time required for processing groupings.

    • Methods and structures for processing JDF elements for a printing system by translating JDF elements into corresponding command language strings for output to a printer. The command language strings are associated with a priority value. The generated command language strings are output in an order based on the associated priority values so that the intended semantic and scope of the JDF elements may be maintained in the generated command language strings. The translation may use one or more translation tables to match a JDF element path name for a received JDF element with one or more entries in one or more translation tables. The matching table entries may specify a corresponding command language string and a priority value to be output to a printer. The generated command language strings and associated priority values may be stored in a memory structure to permit output in the desired order.

    • A method and system that aggregates data associated with one or more entities from different data sources are provided. The data sources include documents, web pages, or images that have information about one or more entities. The information is extracted from the data sources based on criteria that define the entities. The extracted information is utilized to generate a hash identifier that corresponds to each entity and one or more storage locations. The one or more storage locations and associated hash identifiers are utilized to store the extracted information corresponding to the entities, and the extracted information for each entity is structured as a virtual page that is stored in an index having references to the data sources. The index storing the virtual pages is notified or updated when the associated data sources are modified.
