    • In one embodiment, techniques provide quality of service (QoS) for services using a gateway. The techniques include receiving one or more control signaling messages from a subscriber station at the gateway. The gateway is in a signaling path for the subscriber station where the subscriber station communicates through a wireless network. The gateway determines a policy to apply for the service based on the one or more control signaling messages. QoS parameters may be determined for the service based on the policy. For example, QoS parameters are determined for a session that is created for a media stream. The media stream may flow from the subscriber station to a base station to the gateway, and vice versa. The gateway may communicate the QoS parameters to the base station to cause the base station to reserve resources in the wireless network. Accordingly, a session for the subscriber station is created and resources are reserved to provide a QoS for a media stream.

    • A limited rotation motor optical scanning system is disclosed that includes a limited rotation motor scanner, a digital controller servo system, a position feedback unit, a wide angle compensation unit, a digital processor, and an adjustment unit. The limited rotation motor scanner element is adapted for directing an energy beam to at least one location within a field of view. The digital controlled servo system is adapted for controlling motion of the limited rotation motor scanner element in accordance with a servo command waveform. The position feedback unit is for providing a position feedback signal indicative of a rotational position of the limited rotation motor scanner element. The wide angle compensation unit is for receiving the position feedback signal and for providing a boost signal that is representative of a boost factor that compensates for torque constant variation with the rotational position of said limited rotation motor scanner element. The digital processor is for providing a set of control parameters for use during the command waveform in conformance with which the command waveform will be employed to control motion of the limited rotation motor scanner element. The adjustment unit is for providing an adjusted output signal responsive to the control parameters and responsive to the boost signal to control the motion of the limited rotation motor scanner element while compensating for torque constant variation with the rotational position of the limited rotation motor scanner element during the command waveform.

    • According to one embodiment, providing network redundancy includes configuring a session registrant database to have one or more virtual standby states. Each virtual standby state corresponds to an active router. The session registrant database receives session information from the active router(s) and determines that an active router has failed. A virtual standby state corresponding to the failed router is set to a virtual active state. A second router is configured to have a standby state associated with the set virtual active state. The session information received from the failed router is transferred to the second router, and the second router is configured to have an active state.
