摘要： The quenched spark gap has a device to shunt electrical overvoltages from the mains, all within a housing. This is pressure-tight and has flow paths inside which conduct away the heated up and expanded gas caused by a flashover into a cooler region of the housing and from there back to the arc. Inside the housing (3,4) are two chambers (a,b) and in the first one is the gap. The internal pressure in the first gap when an arc is formed is greater than that in the second chamber. Between the chambers is a wall (9) with holes (27) in it through which the heated gas flows between chambers.

摘要： A multi-pole arrangement of overvoltage protection elements in a three phase low voltage system has the elements between each phase and earth and between neutral and earth. At least one of the branches 91 to 4) has a negligible resistance in the breakdown situation. The elements for the phases have relatively high internal resistance, but that for the neutral is relatively low. The elements could be varistors with a higher impedance and rated voltage in the phase branches than the neutral branch. There may be spark gaps in all four branches. The gaps may have different breakdown voltages, being higher for the phase branches than the neutral one.
