    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of absorption and desorption of moisture and moisture permeability of a building material and to impart a sufficient strength to the building material by manufacturing the humidity-conditioning building material, a main component of which comprises respective specific amounts of calcium carbonate and amorphous silica, by carbonation hardening reaction, and providing a specific surface area and an average pore diameter by a specific gaseous nitrogen absorbing method. SOLUTION: Synthesis of tobamolite is conducted by using calcareous and siliceous material powders in an autoclave, and the resultant fine particles are molded, followed by conducting carbonation hardening, to thereby obtain a humidity-conditioning building material containing 29% calcium carbonate, 21% amorphous silica, and 49% aggregate. The obtained building material has a specific surface of 80-250 m2/g, and an average pore diameter of 1.5-30.0 nm, and can exhibit, for instance, the moisture conductivity of 10.0 ng/(m.s.Pa) or more and the moisture absorption/desorption amount of 80 g/m2 or more, whereby the building material can retain high humidity-conditioning performance and sufficient specific strength as large as 180 m or more. Further, by setting the average particle diameter of the aggregate to, e.g. 10 μm or more, the rate of length change by water absorption becomes 0.25% or less. Thus, the building material can serve as a noncombustible building material which is excellent in humidity-conditioning and strength.
