    • A system and method for channel status information feedback in a wireless communications system is provided. A method includes receiving a transmission containing feedback information from a mobile station (MS) having N total antennas, M receive/transmit antennas, N−M receive-only antennas, wherein N and M are integers and N>M, decoding the received transmission, computing estimates of CSI for channel elements of N−M receive-only antennas using the decoded transmission, computing estimates of CSI for channel elements of M receive/transmit antennas using channel reciprocity, and computing a precoding matrix from the channel elements for the N−M receive-only antennas and the M receive/transmit antennas.

    • A method for transmitting to a direct mobile communications (DMC) device by a user equipment operating in both a cellular mode and a DMC mode includes estimating a first pathloss of a first channel from the user equipment to a base station according to a difference between a known base station transmit power level and a received base station power level, and estimating a second pathloss of a second channel from the user equipment to the DMC device according to a difference between a known DMC device transmit power level and a received DMC device power level. The method also includes setting a transmit power level for transmission to the DMC device according to the first pathloss and the second pathloss, and transmitting a signal to the DMC device at the transmit power level.

    • A system and method for distributed power control in a communications system are provided. A method for relay node operations includes transmitting a signal at a transmit power level on a first channel from a relay node to a user equipment, receiving a message comprising a first indication of channel quality of the first channel at the transmit power level, and determining a second indication of channel quality of a second channel between a communications controller and the relay node, where the first channel and the second channel are in a same multi-hop communication path. The method also includes altering the transmit power level of the first channel based on the first indication of channel quality and the second indication of channel quality to converge the channel quality of the first channel to a convergence value.
