    • PURPOSE:To produce a rail with the head having excellent wear resistance by a simple heat-treating equipment by injecting a refrigerant such as air onto the head of a rail cut to a specified length immediately after hot rolling and kept at a temp. in the austenite region to quench the head. CONSTITUTION:The four rails 11a hot-rolled, cut to a specified length, and kept at a temp. in the austenite region are placed on a chain transfer 12, and transferred to a heat treating position. The leg of the rail 11b at the heat- treating position is fixed on a skid 27 by the claw 21 of a centering device 22, and the rail 11b is accurately positioned on the center line of a nozzle 18 for cooling the rail head. Cooling air flow control valves 24, 25, and 26 are opened to inject air, and the head 6a, gage corner 6b, head side 6c, jaw 6d, and lower jaw 6e of the rail 11b are simultaneously quenched. Consequently, a fine pearlite structure having excellent wear resistance is obtained, and the heat-treated rail 11c is delivered by the movement of the chain transfer 12.

    • PURPOSE:To automatically detect nozzle clogging by providing a detecting header mounted on a running truck running along a guide parallel to a nozzle header, facing to nozzle in the nozzle header and providing rubber pad at the tip part, a pushing device and suction pressure detecting device. CONSTITUTION:A cooling device main body is stopped and inner part in the nozzle header 1 is made to empty to make the atmosphere and this is worked. The running truck 4 is waited on the extending guide rail 3b during shifting the cooling device, and at the time of detecting the nozzle clogging, this is shifted to the lower part of the nozzle header 1 with a driving device 5. By detecting the reference nozzle 2b with a nozzle position detecting sensor 6, the truck is shifted by the interval L1. A cylinder 9a in the pushing device 9 on the truck 4 is worked and the rubber pad 8 in the detecting header 7 is ascended and the prescribed nozzle 2 is accomodated and the pad 8 is pushed and brought into close contact with the nozzle plate 1a with elastic force of a pushing rubber. A solenoid valve 15 is turned to 'ON', and compressed air is caused to flow into ejector 11a and the suction circuit 11b is made to negative pressure and the compressed air is sucked from the nozzle 2. At the time of clogging the nozzle 2, the lowering of the pressure is detected with an air pressure sensor 11c and outputted to a printer 14.

    • PURPOSE:To enable selection of an equipment having the optimum heat treatment capacity in accordance with supplying capacity of a rail by arranging plural number of vertical rollers for holding end part of rail foot and side rollers for holding surface part of rail foot over the whole length of the heat treatment apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The rail foot part 11b of the rail 11 during heat treatment is held to upper and lower directions with conveying rollers 12 and side rollers 13, and the end part of the rail foot part 11b is held to right and left directions with vertical rollers 14. Further, cooling nozzles 15 for top part of the rail are continuously set over the whole length of the heat treatment apparatus, and cooling nozzles 16 for foot part of the rail are set at interval between the conveying rollers 12 and cooling air is injected from positions having the constant intervals to the top part 11a of the rail and the foot part 11b of the rail. By this method, the equipment having the optimum heat treatment capacity can be selected in accordance with supplying capacity of the rail and the heat treated rail having wide range from intermediate strength to high strength can be produced.

    • PURPOSE:To form the whole cross section of a rail into stable structure and also to prevent the abrupt rising of hardness in the vicinity of a railhead surface by allowing cooling nozzles to approach the railhead surface as cooling proceeds and also increasing the amount of refrigerant to be sprayed. CONSTITUTION:At the time of cooling a high-temperature rail 1, a refrigerant is sprayed by using railhead surface-cooling nozzles 3 and railhead side surface- cooling nozzles 7, controlled cooling is continued until pearlite transformation in the railhead of the rail 1 is completed. Slow cooling is carried out in the initial stage, and cooling is intensified with the lapse of cooling time. Controlled cooling is carried out by fixing the amount of refrigerant to be sprayed and reducing the distances between the cooling nozzles 3, 7 and the railhead surface of the rail 1, or by fixing nozzle distances and increasing the amount of refrigerant to be sprayed via a common adjusting valve 5, or by operating both procedures simultaneously. By this method, a high-strength rail in which hardness is increased to the depth of the inside of the railhead 1 of the rail 1 can be manufactured.
