    • Selective gas-reducing methods for making shape-defined metal-based nanoparticles. By avoiding the use of solid or liquid reducing reagents, the gas reducing reagent can be used to make shape well-defined metal- and metal alloy-based nanoparticles without producing contaminates in solution. Therefore, the post-synthesis process including surface treatment become simple or unnecessary. Weak capping reagents can be used for preventing nanoparticles from aggregation, which makes the further removing the capping reagents easier. The selective gas-reducing technique represents a new concept for shape control of nanoparticles, which is based on the concepts of tuning the reducing rate of the different facets. This technique can be used to produce morphology-controlled nanoparticles from nanometer- to submicron- to micron-sized scale. The Pt-based nanoparticles show improved catalytic properties (e.g., activity and durability).

    • A rolling guide device 160 is provided with a track rail 161 as a track member and a movable member 163 mounted to the track rail 161 to be movable through balls 162. A solid lubricant film is formed to the ball 162 by using a closed magnetic field unbalanced magnetron spattering apparatus (CUMS apparatus). The solid lubricant film has a low friction coefficient at the outermost surface of the film, withstands an inner repeated stress, and has a high adhesion performance. Such solid lubricant film has never been from its inside or boundary portion and wears at the minimum speed from the film surface, so that a reliable and highly ideal solid lubricating function can be attained, and by applying the solid lubricant film having improved adhesion performance and abrasion resistance to the rolling guide device, there can be provided a rolling guide device usable in a specific environmental condition such as an undesirable lubricating environment, high temperature vacuum condition, or an oil-free condition.

    • A method and system is disclosed for detecting paging indicators using a multi-stage and multi-threshold detection mechanism so that a mobile terminal can be removed from an idle mode appropriately. After receiving a first paging indicator, it is determined whether a first indicator measurement corresponding to the first paging indicator is between a first and a second predetermined thresholds. After receiving a second paging indicator which may be a temporal diversity counterpart of the first paging indicator, a second indicator measurement derived based on both the first and second paging indicators is compared against a third predetermined threshold, wherein the mobile terminal is removed from the idle mode when both comparisons are appropriately conducted.
