    • A protecting device for a car air conditioner includes a timer for timing a period of the rise in the level of a rotation signal delivered from a rotation sensor for detecting a rotational speed of a compressor with the signal being distinguished from noise. On the basis of the obtained period, a judgment is made as to whether rotation of the compressor is in an abnormal state. An electromagnetic clutch between the compressor and a car engine is controlled on the basis of the judgment. The protecting device is mounted on a housing of the compressor with the rotation sensor so that wiring is executed only in an engine room. The protecting device includes a state holding device for memorizing the abnormal state of the rotation of the compressor. The air conditioner can restart on condition that a conscious operation is performed to reset the state holding device.

When subjected to acceleration, the inertia ball rolls to come into contact with one or more of the feather portions of the contact member so that it electrically conducts between the feather portions and the housing. The inertia ball in a rotational motion collides against the protrusion, changing the course of its movement.

    • A structure for mounting a thermal protector in a hermetic refrigeration compressor including an electric motor and a compressing means enclosed in a housing with refrigerant is disclosed. The housing has at least one through hole. The structure includes a terminal assembly airtightly secured in the hole of the housing. The terminal assembly includes a metal base and a plurality of electrically conductive terminal pins secured to the metal base by an electrically insulative material with small thermal conductivity. The structure further includes a thermal protector including a hermetic casing, a thermally responsive element disposed in the casing to be in direct contact with an inner wall of the casing at one side, and a contact mechanism. The thermal protector is mounted on a plurality of connection terminals connected to respective ends of the terminal pins located inside the compressor housing so as to be subjected to heat from at least one of the motor, compressing means and the refrigerant, so that the thermal protector is positioned to occupy a predetermined position.

    • A fixing method and assembly of a temperature responsive element capable of detecting variation in temperature of discharge cooling medium of a compressor exactly and rapidly and preventing the compressor from being burned.     • In a seat belt retractor having a reel to which a belt is anchored at one end and which is spring biased pawl is pivotally mounted on a retractor frame for movement into and out of engagement with a pair of ratchet-toothed flanges provided on the reel. Disposed coaxially with the reel are a cam wheel rotatable simultaneously therewith and an inertia wheel rotatable through a predetermined angle relative to the cam wheel. These wheels have on and along their peripheries protuberances which are disposed at a predetermined pitch. During rotation of the reel in a direction of belt extension at relatively low acceleration, the inertia wheel is rotated in synchronism with the cam wheel via a spring. This spring yields, upon a high acceleration being imparted to the reel in the direction of belt extension, to permit the inertia wheel to lag behind the cam wheel by the predetermined angle. The lagging of the inertia wheel behind the cam wheel is sensed by a follower lever associated with the locking pawl, whereupon the locking pawl engages the pair of ratchet-toothed flanges of the reel thereby locking the same against any further rotation in the direction of belt extension. Several embodiments are disclosed.
