    • A pre-connectorized fiber optic distribution cable assembly includes a plurality of optical fibers and at least one mid-span access location along the length of the distribution cable. At least one of the optical fibers is accessed, terminated and then connectorized at the mid-span access location to an optical connector disposed within a receptacle. The mid-span access location, the accessed, terminated and connectorized optical fiber, the optical connector and at least a portion of the receptacle are encapsulated with a protective overmolded shell. A tether including at least one optical fiber connectorized at a first end of the tether is optically connected to the optical connector through the receptacle. A second end of the tether opposite the first end terminates in a network optical connection terminal, thereby compensating for a span length measurement difference between the actual location of the mid-span access and the desired location of the optical connection terminal.

    • The splice housing assembly provides a non-activated mechanical splice that provides temperature compensation such that the resulting splice is substantially unaffected by temperature fluctuations, thereby permitting the splice housing assembly to be formed of relatively inexpensive materials, such as plastic. The splice housing assembly includes a splice tube having a first end that is attached to an end portion of the first optical fiber. The splice housing assembly also includes a temperature compensator disposed at least partially within the splice tube. The temperature compensator defines an opening through which the end portion of the second optical fiber extends. The first end of the temperature compensator is attached to the second optical fiber and the second end of the temperature compensator is attached is the splice tube. Advantageously, the temperature compensator and the splice tube are formed of different materials that are selected such that differences between the expansion and contraction of the splice tube and the optical fibers that arise as a result of temperature variations are at least partially offset by changes in length of the temperature compensator.

    • The fiber optic interconnection apparatus includes a receptacle mounted at least partially within a wall of an enclosure, such as an optical network unit, a network interface device or a splice closure, and a fiber optic cable assembly for mating with the receptacle. By mating the fiber optic cable assembly with the receptacle in a predetermined aligned manner, one or more optical fibers of the fiber optic cable on which the fiber optic cable assembly is mounted can be optically interconnected with respective optical fibers held by the receptacle which extend through the receptacle and into the enclosure. Since the optical fibers which extend through the receptacle and into the enclosure may have been previously terminated, such as during the initial configuration of the enclosure in which the optical fibers are spliced or otherwise connected to other optical fibers or to active equipment within the enclosure, the fiber optic interconnection apparatus permits the optical fibers of the fiber optic cable to be appropriately terminated within the enclosure without requiring the enclosure to be opened. The components within the enclosure are therefore protected from damage which might otherwise result from opening the enclosure to terminate the optical fibers.

    • Ferrule assemblies and fiber optic connectors that are easily transformable from a female configuration to a male configuration or vice-versa by the craft are disclosed. The ferrule assemblies and/or fiber optic connectors are used with a guide pin keeper that is easily and quickly installed or removed from the ferrule assembly/connector during manufacturing or post-manufacturing process by the craft. The guide pin keeper is installable and/or removable from the ferrule assembly in a direction generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ferrule assembly without having to disassemble the ferrule boot from the ferrule. Moreover, the guide pin keeper allows installation of the guide pins from the front side of the ferrule. Thus, the guide pin keeper and/or guide pins can easily and quickly be installed or removed during the manufacturing process or in the field by the craft for transforming the ferrule assembly or connector.
