摘要： A computer implemented method and system for reducing sunglint effects in a multispectral digital image from a satellite multiband imager having a sampling time delay between collection of a first handset and a second handset, each handset including a near infrared band and a plurality of other wavelength bands. For each handset separately, extract pixels in a window surrounding a current pixel, determine a local low glint value as the characteristic value of a small subset of pixels in the window having the lowest near infrared reflectance values, determine a near infrared glint value by subtracting the local low glint value from the near infrared reflectance value of the current pixel, and determine glint- corrected values for each of the wavelength bands by subtracting the local low glint value from each wavelength band reflectance value. A second pass can apply a near infrared band subtraction correction to all bands of the first handset and the second handset. The satellite imager can be the WorldView-2 or WorldView-3 system.

摘要： A magnetic connection system with at least three components for connecting host and target systems. A first connector is attached to the host system and has a ring magnet; a second magnetic target connector or puck is attached to the target system and has a ring magnet; a third magnetic connector is positioned between the first connector and the second connector and has a ring magnet. The three ring magnets are configured such that the first, second, and third connectors fit together with the ring magnets aligned, and magnetic attraction is stronger between the puck and the target system connector than the puck and the host system connector. The system can transfer fuel from a fuel supply vessel to a target vessel with minimal human effort to attach the fuel connector components. The puck can have a conduit centrally aligned with a receiving conduit in the target system connector.

摘要： An apparatus for controlling the movements of an avatar in a virtual environment includes a user input means, such as a gamepad with a plurality of joystick-controlled and button-controlled outputs, a tracker, and optional sliding foot pedals; a processor for running virtual environment (VE) software that includes an avatar moving through the VE; and a control mapping algorithm. The algorithm maps the gamepad, tracker, and optional sliding foot pedal outputs to the avatar's course, heading, displacement, and view, with the joysticks mapped to provide open loop directional control over the course and heading of the avatar, the tracker providing open loop control over the view, and the optional sliding foot pedals providing open loop control over displacement. The operator-controlled movement of the avatar in the virtual environment is displayed to the operator on a computer desktop display or a head mounted display.

摘要： Building blocks are provided for on-chip chemical sensors and other highly-compact photonic integrated circuits combining interband or quantum cascade lasers and detectors with passive waveguides and other components integrated on a III-V or silicon. A MWIR or LWIR laser source is evanescently coupled into a passive extended or resonant-cavity waveguide that provides evanescent coupling to a sample gas (or liquid) for spectroscopic chemical sensing. In the case of an ICL, the uppermost layer of this passive waveguide has a relatively high index of refraction that enables it to form the core of the waveguide, while the ambient air, consisting of the sample gas, functions as the top cladding layer. A fraction of the propagating light beam is absorbed by the sample gas if it contains a chemical species having a fingerprint absorption feature within the spectral linewidth of the laser emission.

摘要： A method for measuring surface-induced cellular behavior that includes one or more lithographically patterned, functionalizable structures on a substrate, for example gold islands or grooved quartz, in contact with a fluid and in registry with at least one living cell for a plurality of times. The structures' shape, height, pitch and ordering are controlled by the lithographic process, such that the physical cues imparted to the cell by topography can be tuned independently of the chemical biofunctionality which is subsequently imparted via surface chemistry. Cellular behavior data, such as adhesion, migration, differentiation, division, secretion, apoptosis and necrosis, is measured using imaging sensors in relation to the surface topography and surface chemistry for a plurality of times.
