Points and switches. - Relates to apparatus for operating railway signals or switches, whereby any desired position combinations of two or more signals or switches can be obtained by the operation of a single actuating- device. The Figures illustrate the invention as employed for the operation of two semaphores T, U, the operation of switches being essentially similar. Within the signal cabin is mounted a hand-wheel L, which, when turned, rotates the shaft F through the sprocket-wheels J, I and chain K, &c. On the shaft F two cams P, Q are mounted, the cam P engaging a stud on the rod M, which is connected through the bell-crank R and rod S to the semaphore T, and the cam Q engaging a stud on the rod N, Fig. 2, connected to the semaphore U by similar mechanism on the other side of the post. The cams are shaped so that, when rotated to a certain position, either one or both of the signals can be set to their 'safety' or 'danger' positions. A complete rotation of the cams returns both signals to their normal positions. On the spokes of the wheel L four indicating- discs d, e , f, g are pivotally mounted, each disc being marked to show, when in its lowest position, the actual position of both signals. The wheel L is normally looked by the projection k on the bell-crank i, and is released, when required, by operating the treadle H . By increasing the number of cams, the invention can be extended to the operation of three or more signals or switches.

    • A locking mechanism (10) for locking a first portion of a container (12) to a second portion of the container (12). A recess (28) is provided on the second portion of the container (12) and a latch member (24) is provided on the first portion of the container (12). The latch member (24) is moveable between a closed position in which the latch member (24) is engaged with the recess (28) and an open position in which the latch member (24) is disengaged from the recess (28). A locking means (64) is engageable with the latch member (24) to prevent movement of the latch member (24) from the closed position thereof. A tie member (46) is provided such that severing the tie member (46) allows the latch member (24) to move to an open position without disengagement of the locking means (64), from which the latch member (24) can be returned to a closed position for re-use.

    • Methods and apparatus for determining print progress of a document being printed are provided. The print progress of a document is monitored during printing by monitoring means included in the printer. The percentage of the printing which has been completed is then computed in real time based on information received from the monitoring means. The computed percentage may be used to determine the print completion status of each print field of a document having a plurality of print fields. The computed percentage may be reported to a host device associated with the printer. The computed percentage may be stored in non-volatile memory of the printer and/or of the host device so that the computed percentage of completed printing is maintained during a power failure. The computed percentage of printing completed can be recovered from non-volatile memory upon power recovery.
