    • 378,306. Making wired glass. GUTMANN, P. F., 110, Ferry Street, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. Dec. 21, 1931, No. 35289. [Class 56.] An apparatus for forming wire-glass comprises a lip 14 over which molten glass 10 flows on to the surface of a roller 16, a gate 18 which cooperates with the roller to form a glass sheet 20 of predetermined thickness, and means for guiding wire mesh between the lip and the roller into the glass and towards the sheetforming pass between the gate and the roller. The wire mesh 26 is fed over a bar 28 and guide fingers 30 into the space between the lip 14 and the roller 16, and it enters the glass and is embodied in the sheet 20. The position of the fingers 30 is adjustable in order to alter the point at which the wire is fed into the glass. The glass sheet 20 is reduced to its final thickness by passing it between the roller.16 and another roller 22, and any surplus glass which may pass under the gate 18 accumulates as a " ball " 25 against the roller 22. The lip 14 and the gate 18 form a discharge throat for the furnace 12.

    • 380,831. Spray-baths. FRANK, P., 121, Nieuwe Parklaan, Scheveningen, Holland. June 18, 1931, No. 17677. Addition to 352,046. [Class 26.] In apparatus for the treatment of the human body according to the parent Specification, the carrier 9 for the treatment apparatus is reciprocated along a guide rod 10 by an endless chain 8 having a balance weight 11 and driven by a non-reversible electric motor 2 through electromagnetic couplings 25, 26. Reversal of the direction of movement of the carrier is secured by a reversing switch 30 actuated by reversing members 31, 32, the position of which is adjustable by endless chains 37, 38. The carrier may also be stopped at any desired height, being held in position by an electric brake 39 coacting with a disc 24. A number of atomizing devices in the carrier are supplied with compressed air from a compressor 87 and branch pipes 17, each atomizer having a control valve 18 so that it may be used separately. The control valve in the closed position may also switch off the current to the motor 12 driving the compressor. Automatic closing of the atomizing devices may be secured by an arrangement shown in Fig. 6 wherein the control valves are closed by levers 47 actuated by tappets 48 attached to the rod of a piston 50. When the compressed air, entering by pipe 53, is shut off, e.g. by a hand switch, the piston 50 is moved to the closed position shown by a spring 52. The piston 50 is moved to the left against the spring by the compressed air, thus allowing the control valves to be opened. A single motor may be used to drive the compressor and the carrier, a safety valve O acting when the compressed air is not used, or the carrier may be driven by a reversible motor. The drive to the carrier mav be transmitted through a mechanical coupling as shown in Fig. 16, the motor 301 driving two shafts 302, 305 in opposite directions through pinions 303, 304. The carrier is driven from chain wheels 310, 311 which rotate freely on their respective shafts and dog-clutches 306, 307 which rotate with the shafts. Engagement of one or other of the clutches is effected by a coupling link 312 oscillating round a shaft 313, movement of this shaft being caused by suitable reversing members in the track of the carrier. Positive ,engagement of one or other of the clutches is secured by a spring 324. To keep the carrier stationary while the motor 301 is running, e.g. to actuate the air compressor, both dog-clutches are retained in their central position by sleeves 329 sliding on the shafts 302, 305 and moved by a hand lever 326. This lever also operates a rod 331 which engages in one of a number of holes in disc 333 and retains the carrier in position. When a number of such appliances are installed, a single air compressor may be used with the requisite piping and control valves for each device.
