    • A card-shaped optical data link device is utilized for transmitting and receiving data in optical communications using an existing card slot of a computer, electronic devices etc. The card-shaped optical data link device of the present invention comprises an electric connector, electric signal processor electrically connected to the electric connector, an optical transmission module, an optical reception module electrically connected to the electric signal processor, an optical connector for supporting the optical transmission module and the optical reception module, a frame for supporting the electric connector and the optical connector at a position opposing to the electric connector, and a pair of panels for sandwiching the frame and constituting an envelope with the frame. The electric connector, the electric signal processor, the optical transmission module, the optical reception module and the optical connector are located within the envelope.

    • A semiconductor element module of the invention comprises a sleeve, a stem, a semiconductor light-emitting or light-receiving element, and a converging lens. In the sleeve, a fitting portion in which a ferrule for positioning an optical fiber is to be fitted is formed from its one open end toward the interior, an element housing portion coaxial with the fitting portion is formed from the other open end toward the interior, and a lens holding portion is formed to connect the fitting portion and the element housing portion. The stem is fixed to the sleeve at the other open end. The semiconductor light-emitting or light-receiving element is fixed on a surface of the stem on the element housing portion side. The converging lens is housed in the element housing portion and fixed to the sleeve, and optically couples an end face of the optical fiber to the light-emitting end face of the semiconductor light-emitting element or the light-receiving end face of the semiconductor light-receiving element. The material constituting the sleeve includes a metal having a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of a material constituting the converging lens.

    • In order to provide an elements aligning/coupling apparatus which can more efficiently align and couple an optical element with a coupling part by providing a reliable close contact of them, an elements aligning/coupling apparatus according to the present invention in which a coupling part is brought into close contact with an optical element held by an element holder, in which the element holder is resiliently supported by a holder by means of resilient members radially extending from the outer circumference of the element holder. Even in such a situation where those elements are coupled in a state of poor parallelism between their coupling end faces, when those elements are made to press contact with each other, the optical element is tilted against the coupling end face of the coupling part. Accordingly, the resultant coupled component has no gap between the coupling end faces of them.
