    • An endoscopic fastening system having a diameter sufficiently small so that the fastening system is slidably insertable into a working channel of a flexible or rigid endoscope for performing a stapling, clipping, or other fastening operation, comprises one or more surgical fasteners, and a fastener delivery and deployment assembly. One or more fasteners being disposed in a substantially closed prefiring configuration inside the fastener delivery and deployment system are configured for being delivered and deployed into a target tissue while remaining in a substantially closed configuration throughout the entire operation. Other related embodiments of fasteners and their respective delivery and deployment assemblies enabling fastening operations in conjunction with a flexible or rigid endoscope are described.

    • A method for use in an intravenous tube assembly (48) comprises the steps of automatically monitoring liquid flow along a fluid flow path (38) extending through an intravenous catheter (34) to detect at least a partial cessation of flow along the fluid flow path (38) and, upon detecting a diminution of liquid flow along the fluid flow path (38), automatically feeding an anticlotting agent to the fluid flow path (38). An assembly for implementing the method takes the form of a pressure sensing device (36) operatively connected to the catheter (34) for automatically detecting at least a partial cessation of liquid flow along a fluid flow path (38) extending through the catheter (34). The assembly also includes a feeder mechanism (26) operatively connected to the catheter (34) and the sensing device (36) for automatically feeding an anticlotting agent (44a) to the fluid flow path (38) through the catheter (34) upon a detection by the sensing device (36) of a diminution of liquid flow along the fluid flow path (38) and, more particularly, of intravenous liquid flow in a distal direction into a patient's circulatory system.
