    • The methods and systems described herein are directed to providing shell integration for an application executing remotely on a server. By providing shell integration for the application executing on the server, the system provides a seamless user experience, in which a user perceives minor or no differences between applications executing locally and those executing remotely. New usability enhancements in operating systems, such as Destination Lists (a.k.a. Jump Lists), Thumbnail Toolbars, Overlay Icons, Progress Bars, and integration of web sites with the Shell (IE9), may work only in a local OS environment and fail to integrate at all in a remote environment. One of the goals of the invention is to integrate these Shell capabilities and achieve a unified desktop experience for the user.

    • The systems and methods described herein are directed to permit roaming of applications across devices consistently and dynamically. Other aspects include roaming of application idiosyncrasies, data or content specific to each application, user preferences specific to each application or content, such as pinning or unpinning, and user history specific to each application in a consistent and complete fashion across diverse devices to provide seamless integration with the native device user interface. Application idiosyncrasies may include different options supported by the applications, groups of tasks or content, dynamically changing user interface, and tasks or content based on application state or user actions. In another aspect, the systems and methods described herein seamlessly integrate roaming with the user interface of the native device, such as a tablet or a smart phone. The systems and methods described herein make work shift in distributed and diverse device environment practical and extremely usable.

    • Touch, multi-touch, gesture, flick and stylus pen input may be supported for remoted applications. For example, a touch capable client device may receive touch input for a remoted application executing on a server. In such an instance, the touch input may be transmitted to the server for processing. The server may subsequently modify the application display or the application functionality and provide an output to the client device. In some arrangements, the output may correspond to instructions for modifying a display of the application while in other examples, the output may correspond to an image of the changed application display. Additionally or alternatively, determining a functionality associated with touch input may be performed based on user definitions, user preferences, server definitions (e.g., operating system on the server), client definitions (e.g., operating system on the client) and the like and/or combinations thereof. Aspects may also include resolving latency and enhancing user experience using various features.

    • Methods and systems for displaying data associated with a client drive of a client computing device in a virtualized desktop executing on a remote computing device without explicitly mapping the client drive onto the remote computing device are described. A first client agent executing on a client computing device establishes a user session with a remote computing device. The first client agent transmits data identifying the client drive of the client computing device to a second client agent executing on the remote computing device. The second client agent receives data associated with the client drive and generates a shell link using the received data associated with the client drive in the context of the user session. The second client agent displays the data associated with the client drive of the client computing device in a virtualized desktop executing on the remote computing device.
