Sewage, treating; aerating or oxidizing.-In an arrangement for purifying sewage stated to be applicable for installation in basements and cellars, the sewage enters a collecting- basin by pipes a, a , Fig. 5, and passes into a removable cylindrical mud box b havi n g a perforated portion c. The gas evolved from the scum e escapes through pipes f communicating with the pipe a. The annular settling-space surrounding the box is ventilated by means of air pipes and is provided with a cleaning- opening d. The clear water passes by a pipe h to one or more oxidizing-pots g containing gravel and charcoal in which it filters through slag or coke breeze i, supported on a perforated plate, a distributor k consisting of a circular plate with a downwardly-extending rim spreading the water evenly over the medium. Air enters through holes l in the outer casing and through perforations in the bottom plate m from the ventilating-space n. A pipe p leads from the lid o to a ventilator. The outer basin, box b, lid o, distributor k, and bottom plate m are each made in two parts. Fig. 3 shows the oxidizing-pot provided with side holes s in addition to a bottom ventilating-space n.
