    • Digital image coding/decoding apparatus using watermarking, and methods thereof are provided. The digital image coding apparatus includes a discrete wavelet transform portion for performing discrete wavelet transform on a host image to be transmitted thereon, thereby outputting M×M discrete wavelet coefficients where M is a predetermined positive integer, a significant coefficient extraction portion for extracting a predetermined percentile of upper significant coefficients among M×M wavelet coefficients, a pseudo-random number generator for generating pseudo-random numbers in accordance with a predetermined rule corresponding to an encryption code, and a coefficient replacement/combination portion for obtaining replacing location data representing the N×N replacing locations, where N is a predetermined positive integer smaller than M, replacing and combining coefficients corresponding to N×N replacing locations selected among M×M wavelet coefficients with N×N significant wavelet coefficients. Since a distorted host image transmitted from a severely noisy environment is corrected using the current image, the flow of information is continuous. Also, even when the image is abruptly changed, an error in correcting the image is not generated.

    • A digital image segmentation method and device is provided. The method includes the steps of grouping an image stream into a plurality of continuous frame groups, setting one arbitrary frame as an I frame and the others as P frames in each group, segmenting the I frame into a plurality of regions, and segmenting the P frames by obtaining motion vectors, using motion prediction, of the segmented I frame regions, respectively, with respect to each of the P frames, by moving the segmented I frame regions by the respective motion vectors, and by setting the moved I frame regions as segmented P frame regions. Accordingly, the segmentation of the I frame is applied to the P frame segmentation, and a conventional segmentation process consuming excessive time with respect to all frames does not need to be performed. Thus, rapid segmentation can be performed.

    • Digital image coding/decoding apparatus using watermarking, and methods thereof are provided. The digital image coding apparatus includes a first discrete wavelet transform portion for receiving a host image to be transmitted and performing discrete wavelet transform thereon, thereby outputting M×M discrete wavelet coefficients where M is a predetermined positive integer, an original signature image storage portion for storing an image suitable to an analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique as an original signature image, a second discrete wavelet transform portion for receiving the original signature image and performing discrete wavelet transform thereon to obtain N×N wavelet coefficients, N being another predetermined integer smaller than M, and a coefficient replacement/combination portion for replacing and combining N×N location data with N×N wavelet coefficients selected among M×M wavelet coefficients in accordance with a predetermined rule to then output the N×N location data and replaced M×M wavelet coefficients. A small amount of the image samples are transmitted in confidence as a signature image using watermarking, without affecting the original images. Then, during decoding, an ANOVA technique is applied to the restored signature image and the original signature image, thereby accurately predicting the quality of the host image.

    • A digital video processing method and an apparatus thereof are provided. The method for processing digital images received in the form of compressed video streams comprising the step of determining a region intensity histogram (RIH) based on information on motion compensation of inter frames. The RIH information is obtained based on the motion compensation values of inter frames, and the RIH information is a good indicator of motion information of a video scene. Also, since the RIH information is quite a good indicator of intensity of the video scene, video streams having similar intensities can be effectively searched by searching for similar video scenes based on the RIH information obtained by the digital video processing method.
