Class 46 [Also in Groups IX and XXVIII] A filter fabric is tightly woven entirely from a synthetic hydrophobic, or metallic, continuous filament plied or singles yarn, each yarn being of from 30 to 200 denier and comprising a plurality of filaments twisted so that there are from 40 to 4 turns per inch in the above denier range, the twist varying inversely as the denier. Preferred yarns are: 1200 denier with a twist of 6 turns per inch, and 30 denier with a twist of 35 turns per inch. The preferred synthetic material is nylon, and the preferred metal, stainless steel. Other synthetic materials are copolymers of vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile; of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate; polymers of vinylidene chloride; .of tetrafluoroethylene; and of acrylonitrile. Figs 6 and 3 show a typical yarn in elevation and cross-section respectively. The cloth 12 may be wrapped around a wide screen or open mesh cloth 11, Fig. 7, supported by fins 10 around a slotted outlet tube 8, the cloth being secured in place at intervals by screws 14 engaging a bar 13 secured to the tube 8. The cloth has preferably a tight sateen weave with the warp side towards the contaminated liquid.
