    • Provided are a fixed codebook search method based on iteration-free global pulse replacement in a speech codec, and a Code-Excited Linear-Prediction (CELP)-based speech codec using the method. The fixed codebook search method based on iteration-free global pulse replacement in a speech codec includes the steps of: (a) determining an initial codevector using a pulse-position likelihood vector or a correlation vector; (b) calculating a fixed-codebook search criterion value for the initial codevector; (c) calculating fixed-codebook search criterion values for respective codevectors obtained by replacing a pulse of the initial codevector each time for respective tracks, and determining a pulse position generating the largest fixed-codebook search criterion value as a candidate pulse position for the respective tracks, respectively; (d) calculating fixed-codebook search criterion values for respective codevectors of all combinations obtained by replacing at least one pulse position of the initial codevector with the candidate pulse positions of the respective tracks, and determining the largest value of the fixed-codebook search criterion values; and (e) comparing the fixed-codebook search criterion value for the initial codevector obtained in step (b) with the largest value determined in step (d) to determine an optimum fixed codevector.

    • There are provided a search method of a fixed codebook, and more particularly, a focused search method and apparatus thereof, for being applied to a speech codec for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The focused search method of the fixed codebook includes: calculating absolute values of correlation vectors of respective pulse locations of tracks 0, 1, 2, and 3 and arranging the pulse locations in a descending order of the absolute values; and selecting a predetermined number of pulse locations for each track among candidate pulse locations arranged and conducting focused search of the selected result. Therefore, it is possible to significantly reduce a calculation amount required for fixed codebook search while maintaining tone quality in a similar level.

    • Provided is a method for a network adaptive error control for selecting an appropriate error control method according to the statue of a network, in transmitting a fax data over the Internet by using a T.38 protocol. The provided method includes receiving a T.38 fax data to recognize errors, transmitting a predetermined statistical information on the T.38 fax data to the media gateway controllers, selecting an error control method by determining the status of a network over which the T.38 fax data is transmitted, based on the statistical information, transmitting the error control method to the gateway that transmits the T.38 fax data, and renewing an existing error control method by receiving the error control method and transmitting the T.38 fax data according to the renewed error control method. According to the provided method, an appropriate error control method can be used according to the status of a network in real time, in transmitting a fax data over the Internet. Therefore, the performance of an error control improves, thereby securing a stable communication and improving a transmission speed. As a result, a communication speed increases so that transmission efficiency improves.
